If you could live anywhere...

Just day dreaming about life after lockdown, but if you could go and live somewhere, anywhere in the world for 1-2 years, where would you go?

Im 32, childless and single, not ready to settle down yet, reasonably good career that could get me a job in in most countries... I'm just wondering if I should go now, just sod it and go?

I live in a major uk city, but my other thoughts are maybe London? Or Edinburgh? I also like the thought of California, Texas, Canada, Singapore, Dubai... literally anywhere.

What would you do? Where would you go?

Copenhagen

Or Edinburgh actually, I commented to DH when we visited that it instantly felt 'right' and like it could easily be home.

Orkney

Edinburgh if in the UK
Connecticut USA or Manitoba Canada if we’re talking further afield.

I'm a Brit living in Québec, op. I can attest that it is as good as described on here Grin however, for Québec, you'll have to parler à bit of français.

The rest of Canada is also stunning and totally anglophone, lived in BC, stunning

AubergineDream · 20/02/2021 22:50

A few streets away, in a house by the park. Only I'd own it.

Milomonster · 20/02/2021 22:52

New York or Japan. Both totally different but appeal to different parts of me.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 20/02/2021 22:56

The entry requirements for Canada and Oz and New Zealand are very very stringent though. I would go like a shot otherwise.

I’ve stayed all over California; San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Sacramento... I absolutely love it there!

DH and I are relocating to Portugal but if I had no real ties and could deal with 8 hour+ flights home on a regular basis, I’d go California or Tulum, Mexico.

Spasiba · 20/02/2021 23:13

Wherever you decide to go just make sure you go somewhere.
I've been lucky enough to work in a few different countries. I sacrificed promotions to work abroad, but the experiences more than made up for that.
And I have to say, there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be now than here in the UK.

Lapland Finland

I really wanted to move to Canada, but my DH wouldn’t countenance it, despite both of us being in ‘in demand’ jobs that would have easily transferred. Someone described it as England in the 1950s. Sounds ideal!

Now, if my DH were to agree (he won’t), then rural France. Land is cheap, I could have multiple horses, my DH would love all the diy projects we’d need to do.

Devon and I do! I’m a simple creature.

dancingqueen345 · 21/02/2021 11:48

@BearSoFair I had that same feeling in Edinburgh. I just wonder if it's far enough now..

@Spasiba I like that, 'wherever you go, just go', I'll remember that!

Yeah I'm definitely not looking for permanent emigration, I love the UK and my life here to be honest, I just know it'll be here in 2-3 years too!
