What happens when son turns 18 in terms of benefits

My eldest son turns 18 in a couple of months, his tax credits and child benefit will stop at the end of August. He’s sitting his a levels and is planning a gap year, he is hoping to do some travelling if covid allows.

I’m wondering what happens in terms of things like my council taco benefit. Will my single adult reduction then be lost even if he isn’t earning during his gap year and returning to live at home intermittently? And likewise if he does agency work for periods of time, would I need to declare this as family income rather than his?
