Leeds, city centre or chapel allerton?

Been offered a very good work opportunity which is initially from home but they will be returning to the office likely late summer so I need to relocate.
I had many many friends at uni in Leeds and they all lived in Headingly so assuming to avoid there!

Narrowed it down to living in the city centre or Chapel Allerton.
Will be working on an industrial estate just outside Leeds and the immediate area around it looks a bit rough so happy to suck up a commute.

No DC and no plans to acquire one, so schools are not a concern, like city centre stuff like bars, eating out and live music, but also outdoorsy things like hiking, trail running.
Anyone who would lean more towards either area or willing to offer advice?

I also love Bramham but I think it’s too far out for DP.

Hi, I’m thinking your job maybe Cross Green or Stourton industrial estate?

Chapel A is great for bars/shops/restaurants (when open). I have that live there and would never move from the area. This might be a better for the parking option.

I’d be more tempted to the City Centre due to transports links (to get to get out hiking) and everything on a bigger scale. Again when everything opens!

How long (in minutes) do you want a commute? City centre traffic can be terrible so better being somewhere on the right side of the city so that you can skirt round.

Do you want lots of bars, restaurants in short walking distance?

Are you happy to commute through the less salubrious areas or would you prefer a nicer commute?

MrsJBaptiste · 19/02/2021 20:04

Yes, I thought Cross Green too?

I'm 15 mins from the city centre in a great area but if you want nice flats/houses to rent (?) and bars, etc. then Chapel A is great but not cheap...

Weird how you threw in Bramham, if you want to go in that direction Boston Spa would be a better bet as it has its own bars, shops pubs and restaurants but Bramham doesn't have anything

Both chapel allerton and the city centre are great options (obviously post lockdown). Chapel Allerton is a bit more bohemian

Is indeed cross green. I’m not too bothered about a grim commute - and happy to have around 45 minutes each way?
I had a uni friend from Bramham and loved it... but was a hard no from DP...

Brahman lovely but v close to M1 so could be noisy. Boston Spa delightful but pricey (and good properties get snapped up). Chapel A has a nice village feel yet close to city centre

I'd go Chapel A. Such a great community feel to it and lots of great independent businesses, not far from Gledhow Valley woods, Meanwood and Roundhay Parks etc.
Also agree with pp that Boston Spa would be my first choice.

partyatthepalace · 19/02/2021 20:24

Around Roundhay Park is really nice, but saying that I think Chapel A has a v hyped rep - it is pretty quiet and dull compared to areas with similar reps in other cities - so I would go City Centre if you can.

SameAsYou · 19/02/2021 21:01

Thought it would be Cross Green :)

You could go another direction if Woodlesford or Garforth? You may have discounted already.

City Centre has everything you need/want.

MrsJBaptiste · 19/02/2021 21:05

Yes, without kids, go city centre - post Covid!

lastqueenofscotland · 19/02/2021 22:10

What’s Woodlesford or Garforth like? Smile

Leaning towards the city centre currently but always interesting to hear other suggestions
