If you are into climbing and someone were to buy you a gift, c.£25, what would be the best gift they could get you?

Indoor or outdoor climbing? For either, a new chalk bag maybe.

lastqueenofscotland · 19/02/2021 14:59

My DP loves climbing. He’s a real gear snob and some of it is so fucking expensive but for that budget I’d go with
Maybe something be novelty like these www.dedoles.co.uk/regular-socks-rock-climbing-1?gclid=Cj0KCQiA4L2BBhCvARIsAO0SBdaCozur_E0ikPDZeD_BkV538bR6tWlfxYvsrrTIewBq_-X4OJFurzgaAjxDEALw_wcB

Chalk
Hand cream

What about a £25 voucher to go towards a bigger item? Climbing gear can be extortionate!

Depends whether they lead climb or not. Or what type of rock also for gear. Carabiners are a good buy if they climb with ropes. If they just boulder then some brushes or chalk. I would assume they had a chalkbag already unless they are very new or very long time at it and their gear is getting on a bit. Thermos or beanie hat maybe? Reuseable hand warmers.
Most useful climbing kit is a bit niche and rather expensive. Perhaps a voucher for nearest outdoor gear shop?

YoComoManzanas · 19/02/2021 15:10

Oh yes specialist climbers hand balm called "climb on".

BarbaraofSeville · 19/02/2021 15:10

I wouldn't try and buy specialist kit for someone else's hobby. You don't know what they need, what brands they like, or what fits/suits them, so the chances of getting it right are slim.

Those socks look OK though, so maybe a couple of pairs of those and then a food/drink treat like booze, chocs or posh nuts or cheese if they're more clean living?

List of useful shops with website which sell climbing kit:
Rock + run
Go outdoors
Outside
Alpkit
Decathlon (cheaper beginner end, so a pro may not want this kit)
Cotswold outdoor
Alpinetrek
May give you a starting point for search terms.
The BMC have some guides on their website.

Book or subscription to one the mountain film festival - several are online again this year (London mountain film festival, fort William festival). London one has monthly films for subscribers - £25 for the year.

My mum bought me an 8b+ monster chalk bag for Christmas. It's completely silly but I love it

I wouldn't buy technical stuff personally.
A chalk bag, moisture wicking or thermal clothing, a flask/ food flask, a climbing book/ guide, general purpose outdoor gear, subscription to a climbing magazine, see if a local climbing wall has any gift cards for entry etc.
