Anyone else paid to watch some theatre at home?

I’ve never actually booked a ticket before but I’ve just watched the Color Purple from Birmingham and it was absolutely brilliant. £20 but worth it once I’d managed to get it up on the big tv. I’m going to do it more often until I can physically get there again.

Thanks @HalfSizeMe just checked the Mischief Movies and hope to watch it tonight. Loved the Bank Robbery one on stage.

On topic but off topic, if theatres reopen this summer, how does booking work with this level of uncertainty?

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 19/02/2021 04:21

I recently booked a show for August as a present. But when I went through the booking I could see the seats weren't spaced and it was selling out. Ive given the tickets buf have pretry much said I dont think it can happen!

I didn't know you could do this. How please?

PracticingPerson · 19/02/2021 05:07

I'm watching for suggestions as I am missing the theatre so so much.

Flowers for all in the industry, I really feel for them all.

@IWouldHaveToSayApril25th

National Theatre does rentals now but monthly subscriptions ona par with prime - currently have Yerma and Angels in America. I rented Fleabag theatre version last year and watched some Fringe shows. Currently Shedinburgh has them to stream only from 22nd Feb for a monthfor 4 quid each. I can recommend the monologues Team Viking and Deborah Frances-White. I think I will watch My arm this month. I also saw the wonderful Andrew Scott perform Sea Wall online. Plus used Dice to see James Acaster's last stand up show.
@IWouldHaveToSayApril25th, Theee Kings was with Andrew Scott too. Wonderful stuff.

I also rented the live performance of Fleabag - it was absolutely brilliant!

shamalidacdak · 19/02/2021 05:44

I thought you meant you paid actors to perform in your living room Grin

Bristol Old Vic had 5 shows in a season for £12.99 (watch as many times as you like within a time period), They are about to launch the Spring season.

I've also bought tickets for concerts at the Barbican but they expire within 48 hours or so so tricky if you can't watch live.

We watched A Christmas Carol (with Andrew Lincoln) at the London Old Vic. I think it was around £15 and was a really nice thing to do at Christmas. they did the live show very well with different camera angles and effects.

Not theatre but Ive just paid £13.99 to watch Barb and Star the new Kirsten Whigg film and Prime is silly and just what we needed on a Friday night. The price of a cinema ticket four of us watched it. It does make you wonder if this is the future for cinemas now? What will The Oscars be like next month? I cant imagine who will be nominated and for what?

Meant to do Warhorse when it was on. Wonder if you can still get it.

WiltedDaffs · 19/02/2021 21:47

Yes, we watched A Christmas Carol at The Old Vic in London. Loved it.
