Alternatives to carpet in bedroom?

DD2 is finally moving into her own home in 2 weeks time (she and her dh have lived with us for 2 years to save and she's heavily pregnant so it's a huge relief for them!) and we want to move DS2 into their room as it's bigger than his tiny box room.

It needs redcorating and the carpet harks back to the days when the girls were ruining it with mascara and nail varnish so the carpet needs to go. However DS1 has autism and is also very very dyspraxic..and spills everything ( he's 24 so I don't feel I can ban him from taking a drink upstairs) and his own carpet is pretty trashed..so want to put something down that looks nice, isn't too cold, and is wipeable!!! I don't want 'bleachable' carpet as we have that on the stairs and I hate it.

Is laminate ok? Or too cold? Vinyl?? Any suggestions gratefully received!

Look into LVT (luxury vinyl tiles) they are a bit £££ but nice and v hard-wearing. There are loads of patterns to choose from. That with a cheap rug that you can swap out or even chuck in the washer could work? There used to be only 2 types of LVT Amtico and something else I can't remember the name of but there are more now. I've had some down in my bathroom for 2 years or so and it looks brand new.

Karndean is the other one Catherine is thinking of, I believe. Looks really nice, my parents have it in their kitchen.

yes thats it, I couldn't summon up the name at all!

Karndean or Amtico, LG if you can find it, much cheaper. I’d say also a rug so getting out of bed doesn’t mean putting feet on bare laminate.

We have LVT all through our house. I love it, it's hard wearing and super easy to clean.
We also have it in our rental property for over 10 years and it still looks amazing

We have wood effect laminate in our bedrooms, due to allergies. We love it, it's very easy to clean and hoover. It is colder than carpet but I have a small rug my side of the bed and wear slippers in the winter, so it doesn't bother me.

Would it be possible to fit underfloor heating underneath? We had all hard flooring while living in Europe but the whole house had underfloor heating and it was lovely.

I would also go with LVT, if the budget doesn't stretch to the premium brands you can get it every where now. I have the Polyflor version in my kitchen and I love it, it's a bit warmer & softer than laminate & you don't have to worry about spills.
