Help me cheer up DD

My adult DD has had a spontaneous CSF leak. She is in bed and has to lie flat on her back for most of the time and is desperately bored. She has watched endless TV/Netflix/Prime programmes, and listened to every audio book going. Can anyone think of something, anything, I could send her to cheer her up and help pass a bit of time? She's had flowers, cake, sweets and even Lego (but can't really do that lying down). If there's something we've missed, please do tell me (any craft related things are v difficult as you have to be sitting up a bit). Thanks.

Play online scrabble /bingo /Switch.

Coldhandscoldheart · 18/02/2021 19:35

How much can she hold in front of her? Has she done sort of holder rigged up? She could paint? Carefully obv, but shouldn’t be impossible. Maybe even have a bash at mouth painting?

Rubik’s cubes/puzzles?

Learning poetry by heart, or brushing up her times tables, or languages, maybe something like duolingo?

NotWithMyShoes · 18/02/2021 19:41

Could you rig something magnetic up so it doesn’t fall down? Some travel board games are magnetic, if you’ve the same game you could play over the phone!

LiveintheNow · 18/02/2021 19:48

Learn a language with something like Duolingo app?

Redwinestillfine · 18/02/2021 20:04

Can you get her going on a project? Home improvements etc so she has a goal to research on the internet for?

PandoraIadoreya · 18/02/2021 20:11

A very soft blanket? Phone calls with her mates.

Haggisfish · 18/02/2021 20:12

Can you do
Something where she describes a picture and you try and draw it? Make it a ride picture!

Choppingandchanging · 18/02/2021 20:18

Thanjs for all the ideas. She loves to paint by numbers normally, and colour, but if you imagine lying flat on your back, holding your arms in the air for any length of time is exhausting. In terms of rigging anything up, it's a rental flat so she's not allowed to do much, although maybe a tilting bed table might help; again though anything on a table involves having her arms in the air.

Learning a language is a really good idea, thank you to everyone who suggested it. She can lie flat and listen and respond without too much arm use so that works. And learning something off by heart would keep her brain busy. Any other ideas very welcome.

@NotWithMyShoes

By her a book on Michelangelo Grin
Grin To be fair, she would probably laugh at that.

I’ve just completed a free course on aromatherapy- it was so interesting! All online and just reading/watching tutorials. If that’s the sort of thing she’d be interested in you could always get her a diffuser and some oils too?

Choppingandchanging · 18/02/2021 23:08

Actually that's a really good idea thank you.

You can buy sticker by number books. They can be a bit fiddly, but at least you won't get paint on yourself.

JesusAteMyHamster · 19/02/2021 00:20

If you can stretch to getting her a switch the go for it, there are some fab, brain activity games on there. Derren Bron has just brought a new one out which I'm on the verge of buying.

Coldhandscoldheart · 19/02/2021 07:39

Does she have a bed frame or a divan? If it’s a frame, I’m wondering if she/ someone could clamp a long arm on which things like a pad of paper could’ve attached to. A bit like an iPad holder but longer iyswim

swinglowsweetchariot12 · 19/02/2021 07:43

That sucks, a friend of mine, his wife had that and ended up going to Germany for surgery as the NHS wouldn't do it.

Audio books? Meditation (look up belly breathing) cross stitch?

NoSquirrels · 19/02/2021 07:56

Does she have a good tilting bedside table? A decent surface like this would allow stuff like the paint-by-sticker books maybe? Or sketching in Procreate on an iPad - a stylus pen and she could draw some brilliant stuff.

Thanks everyone, a sticker by numbers book is on its way! That'll be non messy, light, and easy to stop and start when her arms get tired. The table/clamp is a good idea too, I'm going to ask her about that and send her one if she thinks it might help. It's a horrible thing to be suffering from. Luckily she's had the first attempt at treatment, but it may not have worked sadly, so she's could have a long time like this Sad

At which point it might be worth getting a joiner in to design & make a holder.

Choppingandchanging · 20/02/2021 17:10

The sticker book is a huge success, thank you so much!

Ooh - watercolour brush pens? Non messy etc?

Choppingandchanging · 20/02/2021 17:45

Another great idea, thank you

How about an online escape room you could do together over Zoom or something?
