Patient Confidentiality

I wonder if anybody could help out here please? I am in a difficult situation. Very briefly, hospital staff have spoken at length to a private carer about my elderly parent, but not me.
Is this even permitted?

Who employs the carer?

Does the patient have capacity and have they given consent for information sharing. What is your role. It doesn't seem that unreasonable but it depends on the information communicated. Has it caused any detriment upset or harm?

Depends.

I'm a geriatrician. We often have to give carer agencies involved in day to day care information on mobility, nutritional intake etc for them to do care planning for discharge or ongoing community care. They are a professional. The information provided is on a need to know basis and only to facilitate that persons care. If the information was not relating to the care needs then it could be a breech of confidentiality.

I could not share the same information with you without your parent's consent or an advance directive/ LPA.
