I had an appointment at the GP. Was told to ring the buzzer, announce myself and they would buzz me in. When I got there someone else was just buzzing, and was being let in, they said sure just come in and say to reception.
The reception is a large room, with 6 chairs remaining, all spaced 2m apart. The receptionists sit behind a large glass window with a small slot at the bottom. This has always been the case even pre covid. They have chairs placed in a row 2m from the glass, so you have to shout your business so they can hear you. Anyway, I sort of stopped at the recption area and waved at one of the receptionists and said my name, is it ok if i come in?
She was horrified! No, I had to go back out and buzz.
All the doors were still open, so I had to walk to the door (a few paces away, which was open, and press the buzzer, and say my name, and then could take a seat.
It was hilarious, patients were laughing. Talk about jobsworth, I thought, anyway. Has common sense left some people?
I also thought it was quite odd that none of the receptionists were wearing masks, but work beside each other?
Honestly it is like Fort Knox,
. Surely the risk to the reception staff behind glass is minimal? The risk is more they would catch it from each other, yet they had no masks? I work in NHS too and everyone has to wear a mask at work all day.
As an aside, it's a great practice and the care is fabulous, I just thought it was a bit much.
(So as not to drip feed, I'm an NHS nurse, recently worked a stretch in Nightingale).
