All guardians of toddlers welcome, we offer ideas, activities, and a shoulder to lean on when it all gets too much. We’ve conquered winter, next stop spring!

Need some advice please regarding covid vaccination. I've been invited for my second dose but I only had my first one five weeks ago, I thought it had to be 12 weeks between each dose? Tried calling gp to ask advice but can't get through.

WeSearchedHereWeSearchedThere · 23/03/2021 12:09

My understanding is they need to be at least three weeks apart, the twelve weeks is government policy to get first doses out ASAP. Odd that you’ve been called early, but if they’ve invited you there’s a reason (maybe to do with supplies rather than you).

@pinkdaydreams, I thought it was originally 3weeks but they extended it to 12weeks so more people had the first dose? If so it should be fine at 5weeks

@wesearchedthere that must be really frustrating, hopefully something will come up for you. I get what you mean about DH sounding supportive but not actually being helpful

PinkDaydreams · 23/03/2021 12:15

Thank you! I'll get it booked then, there's so much conflicting advice on Google, I can always trust Mumsnet for a straightforward answer Grin

MonkeyPuddle · 23/03/2021 12:35

@PinkDaydreams attached is the NHS England guidance for vaccine administration. The 12w thing was purely operational to get as many 1st doses in as possible. But defo take the offer of the 2nd dose

That's perfect, thank you!! All booked, hoping I don't react as badly this time. The first vaccination wiped me out for a few days, it was horrendous!

MonkeyPuddle · 23/03/2021 13:42

We’re building DD’s cot. Moving her from the next to me crib.

I am not emotionally prepared for this.

OhToBeASeahorse · 23/03/2021 13:47

@MonkeyPuddle how old is she? If it helps I'm very jealous. My 5 month old wont sleep anywhere but on my arm and its painfully adorable but it also might break me.

MonkeyPuddle · 23/03/2021 13:54

@OhToBeASeahorse she’s nearly 5 months. Blows my mind!

Feel you on the lack of sleep, she takes 95% of day time sleep in my arms and is up at least 3 times a night. We’re only moving her as someone (DP) lost one of the bolts to the next to me and it’s been wonky and propped up on books from birth and she’s getting to be a wriggler so it’s probably a bit unsafe 😂

drumst1ck · 23/03/2021 14:14

@MonkeyPuddle we have just put up our next to me ready for arrival and i had forgotten what a pain it is to get out to the toilet. DD was a proper velcro baby as well so most of the time it was just a handy sidetable for all my snacks while she slept blissfully in my arms. Maybe this time will be better...

MonkeyPuddle · 23/03/2021 14:18

She looks so small in there! I also don’t iron sheets 😂
@drumst1ck yeah I do a lot of scootching down the bed to get out! We’ve put the cot up next to our bed, only olace it fits. We’ll be moving her into share with her brother when she’s bigger, want her sleeping through before we move her. I can’t cope with both of them awake in the night!!

DD looks lovely and comfortable @MonkeyPuddle.

Has anyone had experience of hand foot and mouth disease? After last weeks pharyngitis and rash DS2 has developed a different rash today, just back from GP who said it is HFM! No idea where this has come from!

He is happily eating a pear but rash is everywhere Shock. Poor little one has not been ill since he was born, now 2 illnesses in a week. Is it because his immune system is not developed as much as perhaps DS1's was due to lockdown?

MonkeyPuddle · 23/03/2021 15:45

Oh poor lamb @Chocolatetrifle DS had it as a baby, all over his HFM and his genitals as well. He felt really rotten with it. I put him in multiple tepid oat baths, just filled up a sock with porridge oats, soaked in the water and the squeezed the oaty liquor out, helps soothe the skin, a friend used Virasoothe gel on her son.
He lived on yoghurt while the ulcers in his mouth were sore as well.
It really is a shitter.

Chocolatetrifle · 23/03/2021 15:49

Thank you Monkey Puddle, I have oats in so that's a good idea. No blisters at the moment just a rash, so I will be waiting to see if it gets worse, hopefully not!

Motherofmonsters · 23/03/2021 16:52

@chocolatetrifle, DS has had it twice. Luckily he just spots both time so hopefully they will just have the same

Chocolatetrifle · 23/03/2021 17:20

OK grand, thank you @Motherofmonsters, hope so!

Hope you get a better sleep tonight.

PinkDaydreams · 23/03/2021 18:33

@Chocolatetrifle no advice but I'm hoping your little one gets better soon, I've read about HFM in the past Sad

To everyone who has bad sleepers, fingers crossed for a better night tonight. Only an hour in this house till bedtime, little one has been moany this afternoon.

footprintsintheslow · 23/03/2021 19:04

@Chocolatetrifle we had HFMit was ok and she wasn't too ill just a rash really.

Lostthetastefordahlias · 23/03/2021 19:45

Same - DD had HFM just before her first birthday & we had to cancel her party (it was in 2019) but she didn't suffer too much - just a rash and she was very cuddly for a few days. Hoping for the same for you!

MonkeyPuddle · 23/03/2021 19:58

Why are neither of my children asleep 😭 DD I think is teething and is farting away and waking herself up, DS has come back from his dads all upset with himself, exDP denies knowin why, but DS isn’t happy about something and can’t explain what.

Chocolatetrifle · 23/03/2021 20:58

Thanks for all the support about HFM, DS2 went asleep OK, rash is still angry but I'm sure from what you all say it will all be fine in a day or so.

@MonkeyPuddle, hope both have settled asleep now? Hope DS is ok. Perhaps he will tell you in the morning if something has upset him, perhaps he's just a bit overtired.

Hope everyone gets some sleep tonight.

drumst1ck · 23/03/2021 23:08

@Chocolatetrifle sorry DS is ill, hoping its a mild case for you!

Came up to bed and found DD fast asleep with her sleeping bag next to her. She's been pulling at it recently but has never managed to fully take it off until now! Covered her with a blanket for tonight but unsure what to do going forward. Is it time for duvet? Blankets and PJ's? She's a wonderful sleeper so I'm very nervous to do anything that will disturb it!

meow1989 · 24/03/2021 08:19

@chocolatetrifle poor ds, I hope he gets better soon! It's so horrible when they're poorly. Lots of cuddles. If his mouth is sore I'd get some ice pops in for him to suck so at least he stays hydrated. (As an aside has anyone's dc not had chickenpox yet? I know ds is still super little but I just want it out the way for him!).

We've got a bit of a bitty day today - chilling now then gonna set up tuff tray whilst I tidy, I need to join a zoom for a bit then think we will pop to supermarket so ds and I can chose some lunch and get some bird food (ds enjoyed helping em put a fat ball in the Bush earlier).

Then off off a support bubble play date and nanny is coming for a bit this evening whilst dh and I view a house. I've told her not to even attempt bedtime as I have no illusions that ds would be asleep when we get back - nanny is definitely the softy grandparent!

How's everyone else's day looking?

meow1989 · 24/03/2021 08:20

@drumstick1 ds adapted really well to his duvet when we swapped, he loves his "big boy blanket" and wraps himself up like a little burritoGrin
