How many do you get?

How many hours' sleep do you get on a typical week night? Is that enough to function well on for you? If not, what would you need to sacrifice in order to get more e.g. go without reading or watching TV before bed, early-morning workout, etc.

I get about 6/7 a night. It's usually broken at least once by a 2 year old and he dictates what time I get up. I could do with another hour really but I don't want to sacrifice my childfree evening to get it.

LetMeStraightenMyCrownFirst · 18/02/2021 09:25

And do you feel OK on just six or seven? I feel like a zombie if I get less than eight for a few nights in a row. It's a bl**dy curse. I wish I could do more in the evenings but if I don't get an early night I'll pay for it dearly the following day.

7, usually, due to my own bad habit of staying up too late. I usually have unbroken sleep but sometimes wake due to a chronic pain condition, or one of the cats titting about. I feel much better with 8 or even 9 and need to be more disciplined about turning in.

LetMeStraightenMyCrownFirst · 18/02/2021 10:42

I am 'forcing' myself to switch off the light by 10:30 now. I may toss and turn for an hour afterwards but at least I am giving myself a chance to have enough sleep.

I get about 5 - 7 hours most nights. I can function fairly well on about 4 hours for 2 or 3 nights but will then crash and need an early night. More than 8 hours can make me feel groggy though, my ideal is probably 6.5 - 7 hours.

I try not to stay up late watching TV, I use my exercise bike first thing most mornings and watch stuff then instead.

Thatwentbadly · 18/02/2021 12:37

I need about 9 to be refreshed. I don’t get enough sleep. It various from 6 hours with out of wakes up in between and maybe 9 with 2 hours of wake time. To get more sleep I need my toddler to stop waking.

LetMeStraightenMyCrownFirst · 18/02/2021 17:16

Yes, 9 is what I need every night to feel right. At some point I used to use Nytol on a nightly basis but luckily I can now fall asleep naturally.

7ish. I can't remember the last time I didn't feel tired. This week I am off work and no school for DC so no need to set an alarm, I am waking up even earlier most mornings for no apparent reason.

ForeverBubblegum · 18/02/2021 17:27

Between 4-6, usually split into 3 chunks. No it's not enough, but without sending my non sleeping children to join the circus, it's what I'm stuck with.

InMySpareTime · 18/02/2021 17:29

6-7 most nights, I have no problem getting to sleep, but I wake up early and cannot get back to sleep. It's years since I had 8 hours' sleep in a night!
Can't even blame DCs, they're teen/adults and sleep like logs.

3rdNamechange · 18/02/2021 18:15

Lucky if I get 6 , never all in one go. Wake up at least twice , sometimes for an hour or more ☹️

applespearsbears · 18/02/2021 18:18

I need 9 hours to feel refreshed, but usually get between 7-8 - bad habits have crept in and desperation for a little more child/ partner free time

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 18/02/2021 18:20

About 5.

LetMeStraightenMyCrownFirst · 19/02/2021 12:28

5? I feel so lazy when I hear of people functioning on 5 hours' sleep :-(

OP posts:
MegaClutterSlut · 19/02/2021 12:32

About 6-7 hours

BrokenCircle · 19/02/2021 12:46

About five hours of broken sleep, and that is a massive improvement thanks to medication from the doctor. Before I started the medication, I would get about two or three hours of broken sleep and I was like a zombie.

Swingometer · 19/02/2021 12:50

I probably average 7.5- 8 hours a night and that is my ideal

I can function ok after 6-7 but it catches up on me after a while

If I have 9 or more hours (eg. weekend lie in) I tend to start feeling sluggish and worse so think 8 hours is definitely optimal for me

shinglebeachsadie · 19/02/2021 12:51

When I'm working which is most of the time, about 4.5 - 6.5 hours of broken sleep and I feel rubbish so often. When not, about 7 - 9 hours and even if it's a broken night I still feel a million times better after a few days.

PaperMonster · 19/02/2021 12:52

I need between 9 and 10 hours to be fully functioning. Am getting that much at the moment but in normal times I don’t. Also last year was the year of insomnia and that was just horrendous.
