Chance of a UK holiday in August?

Three of us, hoping to book a cottage or apartment in August, in Scotland . About two hours train journey . All clinically vulnerable but expecting at least two of us to be vaccinated by that point, if not all three .

One lives in shared supported accommodation so would need extra permission from them - which at the moment seems very, very unlikely - she’s only been allowed two distanced visits (for ten minutes a time) in the last 12 months .

Would you book a weekend now, or leave until July to be absolutely sure? Can’t afford to lose deposit .

Are you in Scotland or travelling from England? I feel like Scotland is more restrictive. I think we will definitely be having UK holidays this year so I would definitely book something now especially as your needs are quite specific.

We’re in Scotland, would be travelling through four local authorities although only stopping in two .

I’d book now with free cancellation, am sure holidays will be going ahead by then. There will be nothing left in July and prices will be sky high. Expedia and Vrbo are offering free cancellation up until about four weeks before you go, depending on what type of accommodation you book.

Not good. Sturgeon says it will depend on data, so England probably same .
Voila new variants will emerge to justify further lockdown and house arrest

Can you book a different cottage with free cancellation ? There's quite a few on booking.com or vrbo where it's free cancellation until 30 or 14 days in advance.

I just booked 10 days in a holiday cottage for August today. But personally, I wouldn't travel anywhere by train. I need to take a train to the office and I don't plan to be going back by then. I think booking a holiday is fine, even last year when cases were higher, we could go on holiday. Is there any way one of you can drive?

I've got one booked in England I feel like the chances are 50/50. I'm worried that Boris will open schools and hospitality again too early and we'll be back in lockdown in time for August.

Sadly no ! Two non drivers for medical reasons and I can’t afford it . We wouldn’t be planning a break but haven’t been away at all for ten years, and I’ve got a tiny bit of money that I could afford a weekend away at last . I might do that, book a free cancellation and hope for the best !

Don't book with Sykes! They're a nightmare re cancellation. 5.5k people are currently on a Facebook group for unhappy customers.
