Fun Money! What do you buy with yours?

Just curious as to what people term "fun Money" and if fortunate enough to have it, what they spend it on. After all bills, food and besides clothes, pocket money and clothes etc for ds, myself and dh both have our own money so spend as we please.
My "fun Money" goes on :
Books
Face and body products,
Theatre and cinema tickets (when allowed)
Haircut , eyebrows etc
Occasional massage.
Probably more.
I suppose it's just another term for disposable income really.

Fabric! I make all the children’s clothes, bar branded uniform. Love looking at my fabric collection

@ChilliChaos sorry to derail but do you have any pictures of things you've made? I love the idea but currently sewing a button is the limit of my talent.

For me it's kitchenware. If it's something we'll need it's from the joint account but I have a habit of buying things from Lakeland that are definitely wants and not needs!

I don't have fun money but do love peering at my fabric stash which I recycle from old clothes, duvet covers etc.

pumpkinpie01 · 16/02/2021 14:49

I don't have a set amount and want i would spend on myself varies from month to month. In normal times , massage , meals out with friends , shopping trip with dd. At the moment gel nail varnishes and gin Smile

DiscombobulatedAf · 16/02/2021 14:53

Skincare, clothes, exotic meat (rarely) and nice wine. I found a moscato company on instagram and treat myself to a few of their bottles every month.

Turnedouttoes · 16/02/2021 14:55

Normally I have no fun money leftover because I’ll spend it on coffee/cocktails/meals out with friends and save up for a weekend away with a friend. DH is an introvert and gets a gaming allowance from work so never seems to spend his.

Roll around covid and I don’t get to do any fun stuff and he’s fallen in love with tinkering on old cars so now I had a little pot saved up and just used it to buy 20 one on one Spanish classes (via FaceTime) which I’m loving.

I don’t use fun money for things like books and cinema and theatre even though maybe I ought to, because I can claim them back against tax due to the nature of my work so it’s just easier to put in a different part of the budget.

I took up crochet in lockdown 2, so currently any spare money seems to be going on buying accessories and building up my yarn stash. Before taking up crochet (and before lockdown in some cases):
Books
Meals out
Dog things
Paints and canvasses
Pretty stationery
Days out somewhere fun with the dog
Little gifts for people
Lego
Baking or cooking accessories and nicer alternatives of the basics
Generally anything I like the look of - I’m a little too good at spending money on frivolous (but pretty) crap!

shivawn · 06/03/2021 12:28

Before, I used to use it meeting friends for meals and lunches, big nights out, cinema trips etc.! Theres been a lot less of all that this year obviously! However, I really don't think I'm spending much less than I used to, now I mostly use it for takeaway meals and online clothes shopping, makeup! I like to get fancy takeaway desserts to eat in the park when we're walking the dog!

SquigglePigs · 06/03/2021 12:31

Nice gins, jewelry, nail varnish and cute dragon figures mostly. I'm lucky enough that nights out with friends, random kitchen gadgets etc still come out of the joint account.

Didiusfalco · 06/03/2021 12:50

I count buying clothes in ‘fun money’ because I have enough not to need any more and then aside from that - plants and gardening stuff. It’s amazing how easy it is to spend on this.

smellyolddog · 06/03/2021 13:00

Racing cars

MsAwesomeDragon · 06/03/2021 13:10

Craft stuff. I'll try any crafts, but get bored relatively quickly and move on before I've used all the kits/resources I've bought. So I've got:
Yarn for crochet and knitting
Watercolor paints
Compasses to do geometric art
Diamond painting kits (and a light pad, an easel, several better drill pens and a drill box)
Paint by numbers kits
Fat quarters (I've made a ton of masks but nothing more interesting)
Soap making kit
Candle making kit
Pyrography kit
Needle felting kit

I'm sure there's more that I'll have forgotten.
I also spend it on
Books
Days out
Activities for dd and me (could be classed as for dd but mostly I am the one who wants to do stuff)

Confusedandshaken · 06/03/2021 14:35

At the moment nibs, paints and paper for calligraphy. Champagne. Chocolate. Plants for the garden. Heaters for outdoor gatherings from March 29th. Lipstick.

When lockdown is over - theatre, travel, botox, champagne. And then more champagne to celebrate freedom.

Zenithbear · 06/03/2021 14:52

Atm- house decor, garden, nice soap, nail polish, chocolate, jigsaws, colouring, nice food.
Normally- the above plus gigs, rallies, festivals, theatre, activities, social events, meals out, motorbike stuff, holidays, hairdresser, gym.
