What’s your best spot treatment?

I have an angry one under the skin and it hurts. Ive soaked a cotton wool ball in hot water and compressed it. It really does hurt. Its pink and i guess by morning, ill be scared to look in the mirror.

I rarely get sport as i have dry skin but when i do, theyre huge!

So how do you deal with them?

This will sound peculiar.
Have you tried toothpaste? Usually works for me.

MrsDThomas · 15/02/2021 23:01

I haven’t but I’ve certainly heard of it!

Another vote for toothpaste. A squirt of perfume straight onto the spot is also said to help but toothpaste is more practical I find.

Sudocreme. Amazing. I wish I had discovered it in my teens. But really helps my DS14 skin. Soothes it and calms it down and dries it out. Natural antiseptic properties to help with the inflammation. Honestly google it! Good luck!

Preventative
Wash morning and night twice. Double cleansing

Use a toner with salicylic acid in - usually the spot ones like clearasil

If one gets past that, soak cotton pad with above mentioned toner and hold against spot for 15 seconds. Tends to shrink the oomph out of it.

edwinbear · 15/02/2021 23:41

Another vote for sudocreme. Fantastic stuff.

dontgobaconmyheart · 16/02/2021 04:09

Audocrem makes mine worse, funny how we are all different. If it's under the skin with no head to it I would ice it rather than use heat, take ibuprofen and use a bit of white toothpaste left on overnight if it doesn't sting when applied.

For future reference I'd get a pack of hydrocolloid spot plasters OP off Amazon. They're brilliant and then you'll have them on hand when needed.

MrsDThomas · 16/02/2021 06:44

I’ve googled more and decided to ice it. Best for blind pimples-according to doctor google. If it doesn’t reduce ill go for toothpaste.

For once im happy to wear a facemask!

Tee tree oil

HandyBendySandy · 16/02/2021 07:07

I've always found a blob of Germolene calms mine down and takes the redness from it within 24 hours.

AnExcellentWalker · 16/02/2021 07:17

For tiny pimples, tea tree oil. For anything bigger than a pinprick, COSRX Centella blemish cream, from South Korea. Smells quite medicinal, definitely not one to wear on the face during the day (thick white cast) but it's the best I've found. If I have an especially nasty one, I put a blob on overnight & secure it with a plaster to stop it rubbing off.

AnExcellentWalker · 16/02/2021 07:18

Forgot about the hydrocolloid plasters - yes during the day, definitely, if it's very visible.

TrainingAim · 16/02/2021 07:21

Sudocrem. Works like magic overnight.

StormOfSekhmet · 16/02/2021 07:51

Chickweed cream worked well for me. And azelaic acid cream.

MrsDThomas · 16/02/2021 07:57

Well I’ve watched GMB with a corn on the cob on my face😂

No sudo, no germolene. No acces to them today. Im home all day today so hsppy to sit and watch Netflix with said refrozen cob on my face.

I find with under the skin spots either you can try and cool them down or draw them out. Literally ice (a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel) to calm it down OR heat/steam to draw it out (get a large bowl of hot water and steam your face as you would when steaming for a cold, or use warm flannel as a compress).

As a preventative I find a facial wash with salicylic acid in it really helps me not to get the spots often. Although I us usually get one or two giant Under the skin spots around the time of my Period. I also use a spot zapper stick with witch hazel. My skin routine (when I get around to doing it!) is micellar water and cotton wool to cleanse, then the salicylic acid face wash (exfoliate), remove with a wet flannel, a cooling toner, then moisturiser.

I do sometimes use toothpaste too though! But that's because I don't always do my skin care routine. I do try to at absolute minimum remove my makeup if I'm wearing any and splash my face with water twice a day. Water should be warm ideally , not hot or cold.

There are viral videos going around tiktok where people cut a potato in half then tape the potato to the spot and it calms it down, no idea if it works Grin

MrsDThomas · 16/02/2021 09:56

Oh i think I’ve heard of the potato one before!😂
