Citalopram 40mg 2 days missed

Hi

I missed 2 days of citalopram as the doctor sent my prescription to the wrong chemist.

It’s been one week to the day I missed them and I’m not feeling right. I’ve been irritable and crying today and had a migraine (headache could be due to recent Covid)

Would I be getting these symptoms from 2 missed days??

Probably - I’m on lower dose and if I miss a day it catches up on me ( and you’re also more aware and looking for signs if you see what I mean) as you now back on the meds it will kick back in soon. Take care

lborgia · 15/02/2021 21:44

Quite possibly.

The other thing to consider, is it the same brand as you've always used? Doctors always dismiss the idea that it can make a difference, but recently a new chemist near me said she hears it all the time, and is convinced.

If it's the same brand, it maybe more an after effect from Covid/ being unwell.

Does it feel as if it's getting better? Were you fine inbetween?

So many questionsGrin

Yep most likely. They take time to get back into your system.

That's the dose I take and I occasionally forget it. I've been lucky, perhaps, but I've never had symptoms.

Littlefish · 15/02/2021 22:21

I've missed a couple of days of the same dose as you, and never noticed the symptoms you've described.

SpudsandGravy · 15/02/2021 22:37

I've heard of people having withdrawal from some ADs, and having symptoms if missing even one dose, but I've taken Citalopram off and on over a period of very many years. I've never had any withdrawal symptoms and, as mentioned above, have never had any issue when missing a dose. Obviously our bodies differ, but I think so too do ADs in their likelihood/otherwise to cause this kind of problem.

Thanks everyone.

I’ve had headaches since having Covid and the sick feeling. But tonight I can’t stop crying so I’m thinking it must be the missed doses. The doctors always say it stays in your system so you won’t notice if a dose is missed but I seem to be feeling a major dip in my mood! X

I stopped taking it because of the issues that arise from withdrawal feel better than ever

I had that when I missed a couple of days on 40mg. Don’t worry, not unless things don’t improve after a few days back on.
J90A · 16/02/2021 07:40

Thanks. I think I definitely have been feeling the effects of missed doses has anyone found weight gain as a side effect of taking citalopram?

OP posts:
EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 16/02/2021 07:42

I’ve been off it for a few years now but yes, at the time. For me, though, it was an acceptable trade-off against being suicidal.

Was it working for you before you missed the doses?

J90A · 16/02/2021 19:01

Yeah. I was fine. I feel better today. I’ve spoke to the doctor about coming off them though because of my weight gain. So I’m weaning off them from today.

TellySavalashairbrush · 16/02/2021 19:18

Please wean off very slowly op. I did what I thought was a slow withdrawal over Christmas and became very ill mentally and physically by the time I stopped altogether. Had to go back on 10mg as I was having suicidal thoughts.

J90A · 16/02/2021 19:54

How did you do it? My Dr has put a plan to withdraw on my prescription but I’ve not seen it yet.

OP posts:
EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 16/02/2021 22:21

I was on 40mg for a couple of years & it took me another year to wean off. We went very slowly - alternating 40 & 35, then just 35, & so on until I was eventually using a pill cutter to take tiny doses. I remember feeling as if I’d had a blanket wrapped round my brain & it was slowly coming off, but by then I could handle it.

And the Citalopram blanket got me through a divorce, finding a new job & two house moves.

J90A · 16/02/2021 23:02

I know I will be going down in 10mgs over a few weeks and see how it goes. I’ve done this before on fluoxetine years ago. Xx

I’ve been on citalopram a while now

Good luck!

SnarkyBag · 17/02/2021 08:57

I weaned very slowly so for your dose I’d suggest
Alternate taking 40mg and 30mg everyday for a week
30mg everyday for a week
30/20 alternate days for a week
20 daily for a week
20/10 alternate for a week
10 daily for a week
10 every other day for a week
I was fine during the weaning stage but found after I’d completely stopped I had side effects for two weeks

J90A · 17/02/2021 09:56

Thanks I’ve got a plan for coming off I’ve just not seen it yet will be at the chemist. Oh really what was your side effects? Did you have to go back on ?

Side effect wise I'd say it was like a bad case of PMT, just felt a bit agitated and anxious. I also some dizziness but more of a feeling that i'd just come of a spinning wheel than a going to feint dizziness.

I've been off them for ten years now.
