Hi I’m new to this so forgive me if I’m doing this all wrong. My name is Keira, I am currently on maternity leave from an NHS Job. I am moving from Scotland to London and have had an offer accepted in another NHS post and they have agreed to wait for my maternity leave to finish. My maternity leave is due to end on 31st May 20201, I’ve just found out from my current job that my annual leave is due to end 17/08/2021.

My question is do I start my new job on the 17/08/2021 or 01/06/2021 and get paid from two jobs? I’m a little confused as to taxing purposes.

Could someone please shed some light? Or offer any advice if you’ve been in a. Similar position?

In order to be paid in your new job you will need to provide a p45 so you will need to resign in order to start your new job on the 01/06/21 or ask to push your start date back to 17/08/21. (In short you can’t receive your SMP and a wage from another job)

Hiya thank you for taking time out to reply. I will finish my maternity leave on the 31st May and my new NHS job has agreed to to wait until my maternity has finished in order for me to start. Do I start my new job on 17/08/2021? Or 01/06/2021? This is where I’m getting a little confused, as all my annual leave I’ve accused whilst being on maternity leave takes me up to 17/08/2021?

In effect should I resign from my old job on the 17th August and start my new job on the 18th? So that there is no gap in service?

Sorry for the long post and many questions x

You will be paid for the annual leave on the date you resign.

You start work on the agreed start date - which will be the end of your maternity leave.

Are you sure you are correct with how much leave you have accrued? That's over ten weeks.

Keira86 · 15/02/2021 19:13

Yes, been with the NHS for over 10 years plus I accrued public holidays whilst on maternity leave. My manger was the one who calculated my AL and got it checked it with HR so it correct the amount Of leave I’m
Owed. Ok I’ll discuss it with my new manager then put in a resignation date to my current employer. Thanks again x

Max leave accrual during mat leave is 33 days plus 8 bank holidays. Did you have leave owing when you started mat leave?

BabbleBee · 15/02/2021 19:16

Check with your new employer - I’ve just moved trusts and the new one has honoured my annual leave.

Yes, make sure there is no gap in service.

@TriflePudding incorrect you can be paid SMP from one employer and standard salary from another employer. Plenty of people have two jobs. I did this you can do it!

Not within the NHS you can’t. They count as one employer.

I think I might have done as I work in biochemistry Laboratory and prior to my maternity leave I was signed off due to COVID (due to government guidelines), so maybe they’ve taken those days in to consideration also.
