Zoplicone

StormsDontLastForever · 15/02/2021 16:55

Hi, has anyone been prescribed ziplicone by their gp? I've had trouble sleeping for months and gp has prescribed zoplicone 7.5mg but can be doubled if required.

I have a dd (6) so don't want to be in too much of a deep sleep at night or very groggy in the morning.

Just wondering if anyone could share their experiences.

Thanks

Zopiclone is very good. Bit of a horrible taste in your mouth the day after, which I guess is a good thing as it deters you from taking it too often.

But it works for absolute chronic insomniacs like me.

VenusClapTrap · 16/02/2021 19:06

It made me hallucinate that seagulls were talking to me, and I was very very groggy the next day. I didn’t take any more after that.

Yep. The only thing that does for me but nope, computer says no.

I see a private psychiatrist, Luna. I highly recommend it. I know people who've been on it for years, have been on 3.5mg for decades and no ill effects. But this is the UK, gotta be nannied to fuck here.
Sounds expensive!

Seems to be banned in the US now.

I love how they ban stuff that works and then act stunned they have an opioid problem. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My now retired GP gave me a little extra - years ago - because to quote her "they don't like giving out drugs that work these days".

I'd say they prefer you on long term drugs than something you can take once or twice a week.

Anyway OP I hope it was good for you!

Lanique · 16/02/2021 19:12

I used to be prescribed 3.75mg on a regular basis however I then discovered Nytol and found it worked just as well, if not better, and with no wooziness the next day.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 16/02/2021 19:19

I've taken it and it's great, and very effective, but the effectiveness wears off if you keep taking jt. Also,I found that if I resisted sleep after taking it, I would begin to hallucinate/have dreams while still awake after about 20 minutes!

Holy shit! I've been taking it for 13 yrs, no charge (not in UK) I usually take half a tab but occasionally take a whole one if necessary.
NovemberR · 16/02/2021 19:32

It works for me. I have 7.5mg and have done for years. I've had issues in the past with getting GPs to prescribe but my current one is perfectly happy to.

Can't even get melatonin here, it's a controlled substance. They're extremely controlling and nannying here, people put up with it, too. It's getting old and we're considering trying to emigrate and part of that is the level of nannying with regards to things like this.

I took 3.5mg for a long while and no ill effects or increased tolerance.

Yeah, some are. Ours is a twat.
DifficultBloodyWoman · 16/02/2021 19:44

It works a treat for me.

I took half a pill, didn’t have a hang over the next morning and on,y occasionally had a dry mount or metallic taste the next day.

I could get a full night’s sleep on zopiclone but still be able to wake up during the night of necessary - the difference was that I could fall asleep again.

My 14 day prescription (cut in half) would keep me going for a couple of months.

elsaesmeralda · 16/02/2021 19:51

I was prescribed 7.5 and it definitely works, but I'd just half the tablets as that worked just aswell. Leaves an absolutely vile taste though that I could still taste the next day

NovemberR · 16/02/2021 19:55

@rawalpindithelabrador

My argument with a previous twat was I am a chronic insomniac and have been taking this when necessary for the last 25 years or so. Either it is not addictive, in which case there is no problem - or it is addictive, in which case you can't just absolutely refuse to prescribe it for me and insist I go cold turkey.

I think it threw him enough that he reluctantly gave me a prescription for 14 of them.

I don't even bother with ours, I just go private.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 16/02/2021 20:15

@rawalpindithelabrador if you don't mind me asking, what is the cost to go private? Can you just book the one appointment and then keep renewing your prescription?

I've been prescribed it as a one-off, but it won't even be worth asking for more. Had enough of a battle getting antibiotics for a chest infection. Hmm

ABitOfAShitShow · 16/02/2021 20:24

Love zopiclone. Hope you got a good night’s sleep. I imagine 3.75 was quite enough for you. Smile

It's not cheap. About £350-£400 for first consultation and other stuff. My script is private so there's an admin charge for that. Worth every penny. No gatekeeper control freak ignorant GP or patronising twat. I see my consultant every other month 1/2 hour about £150-£180 at a crack.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 16/02/2021 20:39

@rawalpindithelabrador blimey!

2021mumma · 16/02/2021 20:40

I was prescribed this after a mugging incident and I couldn’t sleep. It was amazing took it in bed asleep 30mins later the next day I woke up feeling so happy. Can see why it’s highly addictive.

I get two anti-depressants prescribed, too. One worked really well but caused weight gain and I found out on international forums that it can be combined with another to mitigate this but of course Control Freak GP and The NHS say no. Well, it's entirely licensed here for adults in that capacity so I went ahead and paid to see a consultant, ditto the zop when I need it.

It's not 'highly addictive'.
middleager · 16/02/2021 20:43

I've been taking 3.5 but taking 2 tablets.
It gives me some sleep (better than the zero without) but I've only had a small amount, to help me sleep as the recently prescribed Fluoxetine keeps me awake.

fantasmasgoria1 · 16/02/2021 20:45

I have taken it on a few occasions but it doesn't seem to work very well for me. It didn't really make me drift off or feel any different in the morning! Mind you my tolerance for medication is quite high.

sadpapercourtesan · 16/02/2021 20:45

My GP insists it's highly addictive and won't prescribe it at all now. I've had two short courses of it when I was absolutely at the end of my tether, it worked brilliantly for me, but that's my lot, apparently. He told me not to ask again.

I thought about trying to procure some online, but bottled it because i wouldn't know what I was getting. So it's back to chronic insomnia and a persistent foul mood Grin

isadoradancing123 · 16/02/2021 20:47

Try half the tablet, ie. 3.75 mg, i found that was enough for me
