Blood test at hospital- ok to turn up midway through a run?

I’ve got to go for a routine blood test. Hospital 1.8 miles away, parking rubbish and I don’t want to be too long as my DP will have the kids when he’s working (I am not working over half term). Is it a problem to turn up a tiny bit sweaty (I run 2-3 times a week so I won’t be a mess!). Will have mask and blood test form probably in an envelope I’ll carry.

I’ve cycled to various appointments miles away and arrived sweaty. The only thing I’d consider is the temperature check at the door if you get too hot running

LittleRa · 14/02/2021 20:50

Will you be running home again, could you feel woozy after having bloods taken?

Orangedaisy · 14/02/2021 20:52

They’re only taking a tiny bit and I’ve never had a problem before. Worst comes to the worse DP could come and scoop me up but i don’t foresee a problem with that.

Yes it’s absolutely fine.

I need regular monitoring and I frequently run to blood tests, and back. Also to ECG (that really puts people’s tilt lights on!)

Mask in (non sweaty) pocket until needed - and at some hospitals you can pick one up on the way in anyhow

Thank you. I’m slightly concerned you’re a vampire @iVampire given the topic!!

Make sure you aren’t dehydrated when you arrive. Wonder if it’ll make it easier for them to take blood if you’ve been running?? I suck at blood tests.

Grin !

It is all about the blood - but I don’t think any self respecting vampire would want mine!

I live with leukaemia, so I’ve often wondered if drinking my blood would finish off the undead. Or if they would just recoil, because they’d sense I was noxious? It’s an interesting twist in the family zombie plan

Doublechins · 14/02/2021 21:04

Just make sure you drink plenty because if you're a bit dehydrated it will be harder to get the blood

LividLoving · 14/02/2021 21:06

I’ve run to them because my blood is slow and hard to get, so running gives it a bit of a shake up.

Orange, that kind of humor about such a shit illness makes me think you must be fabulous

Whataroyalannoyance · 15/02/2021 08:31

Balls, I said the wrong name, I meant *iVampire

iVampire · 16/02/2021 20:32

Thank you @Whataroyalannoyance

It’s not about being fabulous - it’s about putting one foot in front of the other (literally, when running to tests!) Because I’m one of the lucky ones - I’m stable on TKI drugs (a second generation inhibitor, made by Pfizer, still under licence so eye-watering my expensive but provided by NHS). I am so very lucky - a few decades ago I may well have been dead by this point. Instead I can look hursts to a normal or near-normal life expectancy.

But I still get a childish pleasure from gallows humour, and from the little things - like the surprise that I run to an ECG. Right now with elective surgery almost totally on hold, the department isn’t seeing the ‘normal’ pre-op patients, just those with cardiac issues. And I get childish pleasure from the surprise on faces when I turn up disheveled in running gear!

Orangedaisy · 17/02/2021 09:16

Well I did it and nobody batted an eyelid and the blood seemed to come out just fine. Only thing I was conscious of was being a bit sweaty on the plastic chairs but they were cleaned after everyone sat on them so not an issue.

@iVampire I take my hat off to you!
