What have you done so far in lockdown half-term?

Apologies if it is not half-term this week where you are.
Maybe we could inspire each other with ideas of how we have killed time/ entertained our DC, or just share our despair at things we have tried that haven't worked out or that our DC have spent all day in their pyjamas in front of screens.

Yesterday I worked a 13hr shift, DC were at home with DH. To my surprise, they had got dressed and left the house. That doesn't normally happen when I go to work and it was below freezing here. They went to the park. They also had a movie night and were still downstairs not ready for bed when I got home at 9.30pm (they are 6 and 9).

Today they spent all morning watching tv/ DC1 watched stuff and played games on her ipod while I unsuccessfully attempted to tidy the kitchen. They have not got dressed. This afternoon DC2 and I played half a game of Junior Monopoly before she got fed up, then, inspired by a challenge pack sent by DC2's Rainbow leader, they decided to make Mardi Gras masks. These turned into glittery cat masks and involved getting out all the craft items, making a huge mess and using excessive amounts of glue and glitter. Then DC2 finished painting a cat money box she started months ago and DC1 found a crystal growing set which involved about 5 minutes of activity that you leave for about 5 days before anything happens. They are now eating ice lollies and watching Bluey. I don't expect to persuade them to do anything else productive today.

Ds aged 9 has spent an unholy amount of time on his iPad. We went for a walk. Did a shop at Tesco. It’s the same every bloody day. Apart from maybe not Tesco everyday. #lockdownfatigue

We've been to a local English heritage, I went to a pop up farm shop this morning and went for a hilltop dog walk. Dd is meeting a friend for a walk tomorrow and Thursday

Surely it’s still just the weekend? 🤔
I’m not putting any pressure on myself to do a tiny bit of wholesome half termy stuff until tomorrow thanks!

Nope. It's the weekend. Not half term until tomorrow - 5 days is enough without stretching it! Shock but if this weekend is anything to go by, I'll be on the Wine and Cake by 9am tomorrow... Really failing at parenting at the moment!

Trying to take every hour at a time. I'm a primary teacher but my children are 10000000% less cooperative than children in school so any wins are big wins!

Yesterday we did some painting together. It was really lovely actually.
Today they went for a long bike ride with DH (while I watched The Bay) then we made a den from a den kit I bought and we watched a film together.

I have a really nasty cold (not covid) so I'm happy with that.

Tomorrow we'll do more painting and bake some bread.

At some point I might be allowed to go to tesco in the evening on my own. And the tip! What decadence!

We've been on endless walks to catch Pokémon, talked about Pokémon and how to catch more pokemon and been on more walks. DS (6) has continuously harangued me to let him use my phone to monitor his Pokémon collection and do 'battles' with other 'Pokémon trainers' Hmm

Dd and i camped in the garden last night, ate an obscene amount of chocolate, played chess and watched our iPads. I then spent most of today in a daze tidying up. DH was hungover and spent most of the day in bed, although he did take DS out to catch Pokémon Confused

So far:
Sat - workshop on taxonomy with Linnean Society which nature loving DS loved. DD2 listened to audible stories on wireless headphones and did drawing. Went for a cycle and the kids were crying they were so cold (with gloves etc)
Sun: Lunar New Year workshop with Museum of London. DS Loved it, bit long for DD2. Both kids bought a magazine from the shop. No interest in helping bake brownies. Went for a walk for an hour and a half which was more successful than cycle, DS has camera to photograph birds.
Today: duvet day. DS rearranging his pokemon cards. DD2 doing activity books which require a lot of adult input. We have a replica poo making workshop to try this afternoon and will finish the Natural History Museum series on Channel 5 which is really good.

I have lots of half term online events and activities listed in this blog post:
museummum.com/2021/02/09/february-half-term-2021-virtual-things-to-do-with-kids/

We're aiming for one Zoom a day, plus a walk but it's wet and I'm feeling wiped so no pressure to get out today.

We didn’t achieve much today, partly because DH had a long bath and then meditated for 30mins in DC2’s bedroom at the time I wanted to get DC ready, so they ended up watching tv all morning while I occasionally interrupted to discuss plans for later in the week. DC2 watched the story from the Royal Parks week of activities. We went to the park. They wore reindeer jumpers my mum knitted them with red noses and antlers on the hoods and referred to themselves in the third person as reindeers. We spent a long time paddling in a stream and collecting pebbles. DC1 somehow got covered in mud. Came home for hot chocolate. The Works had delivered my order while we were out, so we played a new board game and tried out the marble paint kit (marble paint kit is rubbish, only enough paint for 4 goes, ends up nothing like the examples on the box, was all used up in 10 minutes max, so glad I didn’t pay full price). We were going to make bird feeders but it’s almost time for them to play on Nintendo while Skyping their cousin so I don’t think that will happen today.

So far, ds has done a karate class, been for a long walk and had a lie in.

I've done the same, plus a 6k run, painted two bedroom doors and some skirting boards, hoovered the whole house and made a lemon drizzle cake.

I'm going to teach ds to flip pancakes tomorrow. Smile

Dc are 9 and nearly 7

Screens, helping with chores, made cottage pie with dd, played outside, trip to the park and crazy playing with each other. I'm not sure where the day went! But it was a lot better than the weekend thank goodness.

@Mintjulia ooh good shout on the decorating, I think I'll get some stuff ordered and do that tomorrow.

Yesterday the weather was lovely so we had a long walk to a new place - still local, I can't believe we've never been there before, or that there are still places to find within 10 minutes drive after this last year. Also some trampolining.

It's raining this morning but we are going to make pancakes and dd wants to do a spa day, which basically means face masks and painting nails. I'm sure we've got some craft kits from Christmas presents that we haven't done yet too.

So far we’ve had daily walks, walked to the garden centre to pick up a plant for a neighbour, baked a cake, played some board games, watched a film, played football in the garden... the youngest has helped me with a couple of jobs in the house, the older 2 have joined in with most of the walks and have done some cooking and a couple of chores.
It’s been a pretty relaxing week so far, just enjoying the break from work and the dc from school/college work. It’s nice not having to get up and start getting ready to go out!

DD is 6yo

Monday - went to a park and had a socially distanced dog walk with grandma.
Put first coat of paint on her bedroom walls

Tuesday - watched movies and did a second coat on her bedroom walls

Today - she painted a mural on one of the walls and we've baked a bright pink sponge cake which she's going to decorate with fondant icing and fill with buttercream, strawberries and strawberry jam.

DDs finished cake, I'm feeling very impressed with her decorating skills, and jealous because I can't eat any of it due to my stupid diet.

What have you done so far in lockdown half-term?
