Should I shave all my hair off?

I usually have a short choppy crop (shorter than a pixie). Haven't had a haircut since last August - I was going to get it done in November but cases locally went haywire & my dad is vulnerable (now jabbed, hooray!!) then lockdown.

I do often go 3-4 months between cuts & it looks a bit dodgy but OK, but by now its driving me crazy, & can't see any sign of hairdressers opening. But then I'm wondering if I give up & go fr the clippers, will MD announce they can open again next Friday at review time!

FWIW I'm 51, always colour my hair but salt & pepper underneath, these days most often have a load of blond/red streaks put in it every other cut.

That seems a bit extreme...not a look many can pull off, plus not the best time of year! Why not wait until 22/2 and see what BJ says or Wales whatever is sooner (notice you said MD but assuming Wales and England won't be miles apart)

I know & I've been resisting hard - but dd did hers, & it's so nice & short & fuzzy and NOT ANNOYING. But then she is 18, and I am very much not....

I've done this to mine and I'm 45! its amazing and actually took a few years off Blush

I had over bleached my long hair during lockdown and it was just hideous, so one day I got my husband to shave it all off and haven't regretted it for a second. Its in much better condition and is growing back quite fast. I'm going to grow it into a pixie cut and see what colour I fancy.

Go for it!

Sadik · 13/02/2021 15:38

Great to hear I'm not the only one Topsee

Re. the weather, because it's usually so short I have a whole collection of hats - I pretty much wear a hat all year outdoors either for sun, rain or cold :)

Do it. Just wear a hat if you think it looks a bit severe. A neighbour of mine has just done this, she's probably 40s. She looks really great.

Sadik · 13/02/2021 15:41

I can take to zoom hats too Grin

I shaved mine at the start of the last lockdown, it was fine. I'd never done it before so it was something to add some flavour to the sheer boredom!

Sadik · 13/02/2021 15:56

I think I'm just going to go for it - I figure it'll have grown enough to get cut & coloured again before we're allowed to go anywhere!

Do it! I did it 7 years ago and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! I'm having dreads after lockdown so will shave it off when I want a change from them

Herja · 13/02/2021 15:59

I love shaved heads on women. I would wait for it to warm up a bit more though! I recently did BFs head and he has noticed the difference outside...

Tricky working out when best to do it to avoid freezing or wierd tan lines.

truetuesdays · 13/02/2021 16:04

Do it!!!! I did it last year after having hair past my shoulders for years!!! I loved it!

Sadik · 13/02/2021 16:05

I reckon I'm good on the cold Herja - hats are my thing & I usually have a super-short crop anyway.

It’s a bit cold! Wink

TonTonMacoute · 13/02/2021 16:09

Go for it.

I'm only waiting for it to get a bit warmer and all mine is coming off. I'm 60!

FossilisedFanny · 13/02/2021 16:12

Go for it but we need before and after pics !

MistleTOEboughski · 13/02/2021 16:18

Do it but have a back up hat if it looks bad or it's too cold.

Champagneforeveryone · 13/02/2021 17:32

Ooh, watching with interest.

I could have written your post OP, even down to the hats. I've wanted to shave my head what seems like forever, but DH was very resistant (though wouldn't have stopped me) and somehow I've lost my nerve. I've not managed a haircut since October and as I usually go every 5 weeks there is a certain essence of yak about me ATM.

I'm also very much afraid that as I'm quite pale (well, very pale right now) and slight build I may simply look unwell. However my hair grows like wildfire so it wouldn't be forever, and it would only be at work I would need to be hatless.

PeterPandemic · 13/02/2021 17:35

I'd be tempted but I think I'd just look like my balding brother.

Sadik · 13/02/2021 17:57

I've got the opposite problem Peter - that I'll look like a (much) older and more decrepit version of my dd!

"there is a certain essence of yak about me ATM" That's me, Champagne ! For a while dp said he liked my hair longer, but not any more

I went for a grade 2 at the start of first lockdown 🙂 absolutely love it. My hair is very fine and very curly so always looked frizzy. I’m 51. Can’t see me ever growing it back tbh

TurnipFish · 13/02/2021 18:37

I’ve just turned 50 & did mine with clippers in the middle of the first lockdown, I’d usually go to the hairdresser every 5 weeks for a short cut. I hated the scruffy grown-out look so much that I figured it couldn’t look any worse! I do use grade 8 all over then 6 & 4 going round the sides & back. It probably does help that my hair is quite dark and has a bit of curl to it (which gets worse as it gets longer).

swampytiggaa · 13/02/2021 18:45

BTW my husband was a bit wary at first because I think he was worried that I would regret it.

He absolutely loves it on me and now clippers my hair so it’s done evenly 🙂
