My DP went an bought me a bottle of perfume for VD. I forgot VD. I forgot his birthday. I'm generally lousy. Now it's Saturday and I have literally 1.50 to spend. How can I make his VD dreams come true either for free or for

Feels like peak Mumsnet here. He is in fact a bad partner. He only gives you or lets you know what your present is to make you feel bad. That you have only £1.50 spare to spend means he's a bad partner because he should know what dire financial straits you're in. God, this place is depressing sometimes.

peak2021 · 13/02/2021 11:07

You call it VD, which I think sums up this excuse for the card and gift industry very well (though STI is the modern term for what I am referring to).

Cloudsurfing · 13/02/2021 11:12

Buy him a big bar of chocolate, make a card, make Valentine’s Day biscuits (easy and cheap). It’s the thought, sounds like he’s into dates so at least make a bit of effort but doesn’t have to cost loads

He's a man. Cook Dinner, Filthy Sex. Save £1.50.

Alonelonelyloner · 13/02/2021 12:43

I'm halfway through making that box thingie! Disaster pics to follow.

I think I'll try making some cookies with hearts in using boiled sweets which I can buy with my 1.50.

As for filthy sex, we're always having filthy sex so it doesn't seem like much of a gift. Blush

Yeah maybe he's trying to make me feel bad as I always am terrible at this stuff.

You forget his birthday and he always makes a fuss of you for important dates but he’s somehow in the wrong?

If your situations were reversed people would be telling you to LTB.

This.

Of course thoughtful man who always remembers occasions and makes an effort must be at fault somehow. Jesus!

LApprentiSorcier · 13/02/2021 12:59

If it's any consolation I am in the 'no card' boat too. I wanted to pick one up in Sainsburys alongside the food shop - went there yesterday, inevitably my glasses steamed up due to my mask as I went in, so for the first couple of minutes I couldn't really see anything.

Did my food shop, then headed to 'greetings cards' - not a Valentine's card in sight, though plenty of Mother's Day ones. I assumed they must have prematurely replenished the display, felt annoyed, went to the till, paid for my shop and left.

I mentioned this to DH when I got home - only for him to tell me the Valentine's cards were in their own aisle right by the entrance! I'd missed them because my glasses were steamed up when I went in, and there was no signpost in the normal greetings cards aisle to look elsewhere.

Obviously given the pandemic I don't want to make another trip to the supermarket when I am not doing a food shop, so I will have to try to do something home-made.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 13/02/2021 13:17

But a packet of Rolos. Eat them all except one.

Give him the last one.

You’ll even have change from £1.50

Lovelymonkeyninetynine · 13/02/2021 13:20

The valentines thing isn't so bad. But his birthday too, could be hurtful.
There's some brilliant suggestions here to go with but also a heartfelt apology for missing these dates and that you'll be diarising them forever more wouldn't go amiss.

GooodMythicalMorning · 13/02/2021 13:23

Dh says bj, card and a bacon butty too Grin

I have done the pot of things I love about him and favourite memories of us before. 1st date, first kiss, favourite memory on holiday etc.

BadMotherLover · 13/02/2021 14:26

This is peak Mumsnet. DP remembers occasions, fantastic baker, great sex life.....obviously OP should LTB because he won't give her £20 for his own Valentine's gift....I think some of you need to get a grip.

Alonelonelyloner · 14/02/2021 07:20

He is really awesome and actually is financially totally taking care of me.

I started making that exploding box thing, but I haven't finished because I'm never alone!! I need a lid!
He just got out of bed!!
Argh!

People shouldn't give to receive. If he knows about your financial situation then he really shouldn't expect an expensive present.

BillMasen · 14/02/2021 12:58

@MrsSugar

Buy a card

Cook dinner

Blow job

My DH would be happy with that lol

My husband forgot my birthday and Valentine’s Day. He’s rubbish

The answer on here would be LTB not to just let him provide sexual favours instead!

Ffs

BillMasen · 14/02/2021 13:00

@Ilovemaisie

Why have you only got £1.50 spare? Does he realise your financial situation? He isn't much of a partner if he doesn't.
Shit, of course. I forgot whatever the op forgets and however else she’s spent it must be all his fault.

Sometimes the comments on here are an absolute parody of mumsnet.
Ilovemaisie · 14/02/2021 13:05

BillMasen what I meant was that by halfway through the month (going by payday being the end of the month) she only has £1.50 left then there is something gone wrong with her finances. If this is her 'partner' then they should be open and honest about money.

You don’t know if she has loads and has blown it on handbags, or she’s kept skint?

But yeah, let’s assume the latter. Must be his fault somehow.

I’m reminded of a time my now ex wife got herself a designer dress instead of getting me anything for my birthday. Presume that was my fault too

Ilovemaisie · 14/02/2021 13:14

No Bill it's her fault that she feels she can't talk to him about money. Not his. I'm on his side.

BillMasen · 14/02/2021 13:22

You said “he isn’t much of a partner”, clearly saying it was his fault. Pleased you’ve changed your mind
Ilovemaisie · 14/02/2021 13:28

Apologies Bill I worded it a bit wrong. I wasn't meaning him personally. I was meaning that it can't be a very good relationship if she can't talk to him about money - or just be honest and say she forgot. I meant more "it's not a very good partnership" rather than "he's not..".
I agree I worded it badly.

BillMasen · 14/02/2021 13:31

@Ilovemaisie and I probably get a bit snippy as the man blaming on here sometimes. This thread in particular is pretty poor so sorry if I was grumpy

BillMasen · 14/02/2021 13:31

At, not as

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 14/02/2021 13:32

I second the blow job idea. My DH would be perfectly happy with that! 😂
