Just that really. I still carry DD round the house at some point most days and often carry her on the stairs.

I loved - LOVED - carrying DD. It’s only now she’s 7 and over 25kg I can’t do it as much Sad

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 12/02/2021 21:11

Ds is 4 and a quarter and asked to get in the sling the other day Grin he weighs a ton and I can't lug him far but I will carry him up stairs etc.

cautiouscovidity · 12/02/2021 21:11

About age 2 around the house. Short carries up to about 3.5 outdoors if we'd been out a long time / DC was tired.
That said, DD is 11 but only 28kg and has recently got into the habit of having a piggy back on our daily walks!

I carry my 5 year old around the house sometimes, he's a very cuddly boy. He likes to be carried up and down the stairs but he's too heavy for that now. He was carried in a sling a lot as a baby / toddler so he knows how to cling on.

I can just about lift my 8 year old but it isn't good for my back, I would only pick her up for a cuddle if she was hurt or upset.

Msfoxy17 · 12/02/2021 21:16

I carry my 3.5 year old round the house loads..especially.uo and down our rather steep stairs. She loves cuddles and being carried.
Am starting to struggle with carrying outside for any distance. She does mostly walk but often wants to be carried the last little stretch home.
It's interesting someone has brought this up as I have been thinking recently how I'll miss being able to carry her once shes too big and heavy.

bellsbuss · 12/02/2021 21:19

4 year old still likes to be carried upstairs when it's bedtime and will sometimes ask to be carried downstairs in the morning.

thecatfromjapan · 12/02/2021 21:20

Daughter was small (is still small at 17) & was routinely carried in a sling until Year 2, so about 6 years old. Last baby, so she was very indulged.

MeadowHay · 12/02/2021 21:21

My DD is 2.5 and I rarely carry her anymore to be honest. Maybe up the stairs a couple of times a week if that. DH does carry her more than me though, he's much bigger than me and doesn't get back pain so he will carry her upstairs more often if she asks and will sometimes carry her a bit on the way home from nursery or out and about or will carry her on his shoulders. Oh and he still puts her in the back carrier sometimes too for walks and things. I just can't do any of that now as I get back pain.

merryhouse · 12/02/2021 21:24

Can't remember, except that when S2 was tiny S1 got stung by a bee on his foot, and while he was crying he said "I wish I was a baby!" and when I - feeling horrendously guilty because obviously I had been neglecting him - asked why explained "because they get carried everywhere!"

He was three and a half at the time. (I assured him that if he wanted to be carried because of his poorly toe then I would be delighted to do so.)

Just before his second birthday a friend said "he's really strong isn't he: I don't know many two year olds who'd do what he did today". I was confused. He meant the fact that we'd walked round town all morning and S1 hadn't asked to be carried Grin

S2 occasionally asked to be carried home from nursery, so aged 4ish.

My mum used to pick me up when I was about 10... not to move around though.

Avaganda · 12/02/2021 21:25

I insist on carrying my 7.5 year old DS just for a little bit each day. I know I won't be able to do it much longer as he's almost up to my shoulder!

FudgeSundae · 12/02/2021 21:27

I’m 8 months pregnant and can’t really carry my 18 month old! She gets quickly hoisted into the car, her high chair and the changing table and that’s it Grin

sherrystrull · 12/02/2021 21:30

I carry my 8 year old for short journeys and my 4 year old regularly. I'll do it as long as I can. It's lovely

huggzy · 12/02/2021 21:30

I picked up my 8 year old today because I couldn't reach something from a shelf and needed her help... does that count?!

Otherwise, I don't remember... I stopped carrying them regularly inside the house as soon as they could crawl/ walk. Stairs obviously later than that. But I couldn't tell you the last time I carried them around.

MrBullinaChinaShop · 12/02/2021 21:32

DC3 has just turned 2 and I don’t carry him much anymore... be prefers to walk and he does the stairs etc himself.
DC2 is 5 and is always asked for a ‘pick up cuddle’... she’s really tall for her age and it’s becoming a struggle!

HariboBrenshnio · 12/02/2021 21:34

I often carry my 5 year old, she loves a carry cuddle and still sits nicely on my hip. I can't carry her too far unless it's a piggy back though.

I do still carry my 7 year old occasionally but hes def getting heavy. I don't want to stop carrying them!

Sparklehead · 12/02/2021 21:35

I carried mine generally when they asked me to, which gradually got less and less as they got older. By about 5 years old, it would be much less often, but I am still able to pick all of them up (7, 9 and 11). I am quite a soft touch though. I vividly remember carrying a newborn in a sling and a 2 and 4 year old in each arm on the walk to school fairly frequently!

Strokethefurrywall · 12/02/2021 21:37

I usually have to carry my 9 & 7 year olds when they either fall asleep on couch or in our bed. Often carry 6 year old up the stairs to bed if he's tired.

DS1 is probably 70-75lbs and DS2 is probably 50lbs? So not very heavy.

RosesAndHellebores · 12/02/2021 21:39

I just didn't. When they cd walk, they cd walk. They got lots of cuddles though. I also didn't have a great back after ds1's posterior birth.

MarthaWashingtonsFeralTomcat · 12/02/2021 21:41

I sometimes still carry 9 year old DD to bed or pick her up onto the worktop. 7 year old is only 3 stone so is lovely to carry - she's upright and springy. 5 year old likes to be carried occasionally and last summer would still have a little carry on a long walk. 2 year old is still carried daily in a sling.

Stompythedinosaur · 12/02/2021 21:49

My 9yo and 8yo are both still keen to have a piggy back when I offer! I'm going to keep picking them up as long as I can.

Love51 · 12/02/2021 22:01

9 months - I'm not Agnes Skinner from The Simpsons (he was apparently out for a fortnight then went back in).

Gibble1 · 12/02/2021 22:05

DD I stopped carrying when she was probably 4? And even up until that point she wasn’t carried much as she was really independent and really heavy (not fat but solid bones).
DS was like a waif and really lazy. He loved being carried (by me, not by his Dad 🙄). As he got taller he got put on my back so he had piggy backs and would wrap his arms round and go to sleep. I put my foot down when we were in London one weekend and I was trying to carry him on my back and his feet were bashing into my calves. He was still light enough just about but he was just so darn long!
To be fair, he’s 17 now and if he wasn’t 6’5” I could probably still carry him as he is just really thin.

Vinorosso74 · 12/02/2021 22:13

I haven't been able to carry DD for ages and can't remember when I stopped. She's just turned 11 and nearly my height. She is quite proud that she can pick me up (as in lift me off the ground). I'm 5'4" and weigh 9 and a half stone so not tiny.

Norwayreally · 12/02/2021 22:22

My DS is 2 and I don’t carry him very often. I carry him downstairs but he usually walks upstairs himself. Will pick him up and carry him briefly if he gets tired on a walk or if he falls over but that’s about it.

Doublechins · 12/02/2021 22:24

Round about when they start walking so pretty young
