Ballsed up interview - can I have a *wine* handhold

Just that really. Been unemployed for 6 months, got an interview for a job I was really excited about. Things were going well when she said 'Im just going to ask you some basic questions to make sure you work in the industry haha'. And yes they were basic. And yes I ballsed up the answers.
I KNOW them, just got flustered and words (technical terms) mixed up. Then once I'd fluffed one I carried on fluffing. My technical knowledge is my strongest point so can't quite believe what just happened.

It happens, what a shame. Do you think they have a lot of people to interview?

jackieweaverhasauthorityhere · 12/02/2021 17:23

Wine it's never over till it's over, if you have the knowledge in there, the panel may have got the gist of what you were saying and forgiven the terminology mistakes. I thought I had made a horrible mess of an interview recently, ended up getting the job! If not, you know it's an area to polish up for next time. Well done on getting the interview either way.

Another 4 people to interview.
Just sat here in tears that I gave the wrong answer to a question that should have been as simple as 'how do you make a sandwich' (for want of a better expression).
Went blank so just talked... rubbish. Wrong rubbish

I wouldn't give me the job. It's a basic entry level question, and I was interviewing for a senior position. Would think 'well she's a fraud'

I fluffed an interview and stuttered and stammered and got the job another time I thought id smashed an interview but didn't get the job. You don't know what they are looking for. Just as you could see if someone was nervous so can they. If it's meant to be you will get it. Well done for putting yourself out there xx

Send them an email apologising that your nerves got the better of you on this occasion and that you hope they understand that it is clear from your experience at x, y and z that your technical knowledge is in fact a strength. Emphasis how interested in this post you are and that you have a great deal to offer the company. And thank them for their time!

Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Its through a recruitment agency so dont have the direct contact. I do have professional qualifications that prove I'm not that much of an eejit. But it's similar to having a history degree and someone asking 'when was the battle of hastings?' And you going ohhh... that's put me on the spot 1966???

In the same boat! Had a phone interview, 2nd round, really struggle to build any rapport on the phone and it was all in a different language and I fumbled for every bloody word!! Not heard back yet, but am just cringing inside...

Ormally · 12/02/2021 18:24

Sympathies and wine. Had one yesterday. I think I gave ok answers and the questions fitted well with some of what I do, but talked/gabbled far too much so ended up drowning the useful information.
There's no way of knowing either what they will make of it, or the circumstances you will probably never know about. I've been on one side of things when there was a shortlist of 3, 1 person dropped out on the day, and the person who got the offer, declined. So small things in your favour can be going on in the big scheme of things too.

Yousexybugger · 13/02/2021 07:35

Tbh if if was the wrong answers, I'm shameless and would call the agency, explain your nerves got the better of you during some technical questions. I'd say I was very interested in the job, definitely know my stuff and is there anything they can do for me.

Do this! Go through the recruitment agency, they’ll pass the email on.
