Returning to nurse training after a C-Section

Hi,

I've been told I can only have 4 weeks of leave of absence following the birth of my baby

I will be having a C-section, I will also not be insured to drive for 6 weeks.

I was initially told I could come back in January intake, which was perfect as I would be breastfeeding and then I would have time to recover from the C-Section.

I am struggling to plan childcare for a 4 week old. DH works full time, my mum is disabled and unable to care for a baby. Older DS nursery only takes babies from 6 months.

I've been told I can take a year off. I will have no income for that year, naturally I'm petrified of not being able to pay my mortgage.

DH income alone cannot cover everything. I have saved enough money for 4 months leave, which was initially agreed by the university. I haven't got enough time to save for a whole year, I would of - had I known sooner that this was no longer an option

I've not been told why this is no longer an option. I've contacted the university for further explanation/advice.

Is returning with a 4 week old doable? I'm worried as my last C-section I was signed off driving for 10 weeks due to an infection with the scar. Recovery was long.

I'm in a bit of a pickle, I'm just after advice/support from anyone who's gone back so soon. I really wanted to breastfeed and wanted the time to focus on that.

4 weeks is crazy. They need to tell y out why they've changed that.
I had a baby during my midwifery degree and my uni made me take a minimum of 6 weeks. As it turned out, I changed my mind once baby was here and knew I could not safely work 12.5 hour shifts with almost no sleep so deferred for a year.

Sorry, I have no practical advice given you can't afford to take a year.

@catsarebetterthandogs9 thanks for the reply, I'm really gutted about the whole thing. I find it quite cruel really, I'm starting to wish I stayed in my previous job and at least then I'd have a secure maternity leave.

Are you able to defer your training and then go back to it once the baby is a bit older? There is no way I could have worked/done any study training with a 4 week old, not to mention the issue with bf-ing at that age and the logistics of having to pump as regularly as you’ll need to

@Yumyumdindins financially I was covered until January, I can't afford to take the whole year off. I'm absolutely terrified. Sad
