When the teachers get it wrong...

What do you do? I'm not talking the odd typo but getting facts wrong. This week my kids have been told that a rhombus has no lines of symmetry, had arithmetic tests with incorrect answers (a weekly occurence) and this morning that there are three types of formal conjunction 'and, but and CASUAL' (this last should be causal). The teacher pronounces it 'casual' through the lesson too, so it's not just a typo. I private messaged her to let her know in a friendly way and have had rather a snotty reply. I know they are overworked and under appreciated blah blah but surely they should be checking what they are doing? I wouldn't get away with constant errors in my profession.

The amount of typos made by people on this thread should indicate how easy it is to make a mistake. I don't mean this is a judgy way as I am guilty too.

Not confusing that with the issues the OP has pointed out as the teacher should have picked that up (but is probably under immense pressure)

I'm a teacher and am also driven mad when I see errors from colleagues. No one has ever pointed out a grammatical error to me because I don't make any Grin and it would be a clear typo if so, but I'm happy for parents to point out if a link doesn't work or if an answer sheet has a wrong digit.
I just respond along the lines of, "So sorry - I'll get that altered straightaway."

I also got something wrong in one of my lessons last week (something I'd been teaching accurately for years!!). No idea what I was thinking! It was only when I was marking the work when I realised...as the children had, obviously, done exactly what is said 🤷‍♀️ It was a fairly simple thing to put right the next lesson...I put up the slide, showed them what I'd done wrong and apologised...saying that even teachers make mistakes and that's ok, we all do, and we learn from them. In our class, mistakes are ok 👍 I'm tired, stressed and have never worked so hard and such long hours in my whole life! But never would I be 'snotty' to a parent pointing out an error I'd made...I'd be mortified that I'd made it, apologetic, and of course rectify this with my class gracefully!!

I mean, it's a fine line. I don't think it's acceptable for a teacher to be making basic spelling errors for example.
But, I was teaching long multiplication the other day and being honest, I messed it up horribly. I hadn't taught it for years. They were quick to correct me but it actually did them a favour as they had to explain my mistake and really strengthened their understanding.
I'm not saying mistakes are a good thing, but if I do make a mistake providing I spot it straight away (which is much more acceptable), it can be a good thing as the kids learn I'm not perfect, and they can explain why which deepens their understanding. Another example is a YouTube video with intestine and oesaphagus pronounced a strange way. I simply paused it and told the children the right pronunciation. The rest of the video was fantastic and taught them alot.

What isn't acceptable is when something is taught wrongly over and over again.
