Sudden weird episode - what was it?

Watching film tonight, suddenly had a weird feeling of strong nostalgia and dizziness . As if I was going to faint . Made it upstairs, lay down, worse with vertigo and intolerant to light . Headache above eyes . Very nauseous.

Rang 111, they said possibly migraine or a funny reaction to meds (beta blockers) and they’d get a GP to call me back . I usually have low BP and also severely anaemic at the moment - GP starting me on treatment .

Ended up being horrendously sick, had a shower and now sitting in bed with cracking headache but no longer feeling so weird/detached/depersonalised .

Supposedly a GP is ringing me before 1am to discuss further and to call my own GP tomorrow, but feeling a bit panicked by the whole thing . NHS24 actually said they were fairly convinced it was a migraine - said vertigo, vomiting and light intolerance suggests that more than anything .

What does it sound like?

Beta blockers can cause episodes like this if your BP is already low, as they lower it even further, but unsure as to what the headache could be :/ hopefully it's just a funny turn with new meds!

When I’m thinking about it I can bring that weird nostalgia feeling back on which does panic me a bit .

I had a big sense of impending panic this evening. I'm also a bit dizzy, nauseous, migraine, sensitive to noise and light. I think it was a silent migraine too, which are a side effect of the immunosuppressant I take. I had the covid jab on Sunday and I think I'm knackered. Trying not to dwell on the feeling as panic is not a good state!

I'm trying to relax - awake and here if you need company op.

GP rang - think either migraine with associated vertigo or low blood pressure or both . Doesn’t think it was the beta blockers although I’m not convinced ... I’m also more anaemic then was let on by my own doctor so wants me to call surgery in the morning - everything is low, I was told just B12 but folate and iron also too low and need treating .

Meantime she’s saying bed rest, fluids, and anti sickness tablets .

I’m sorry you felt same @User2941, hopefully you’re feeling better now ❤️

This sounds very similar to how my migraines used to be-did your vision go weird at all? Mine used to go as if I could only see out of half of each eye (difficult to explain but unlike anything else!) I initially wouldn't get the headache until after I'd thrown up.

I'm glad the GP has followed up and hope you feel better soon. In the meantime if you feel like this again it'd be worth keeping a diary of anything you were doing or eating-triggers for migraine can include food, smells or life events such as stress (ha! Like we're not all stressed at the moment!) lack of sleep etc. If it is migraine there are many options, for me, after many years of trial and error I've found that triptans help to knock them out if I suffer one and I've recently been put on trimethoprim as a prophylactic but needed a consultant to prescribe. Avoid any opiates such as co-codamol like the plague, they can contribute.

I hope this was just a one off weird thing and you soon feel much better, must have been very unnerving for you Thanks

I have no idea what you mean about feeling nostalgic but apart from that it sounds like vertigo, when I had vertigo it was the scariest thing I have ever had. I had a couple of warning (for want of a better word) spells in the week before I got it, which I stupidly ignored and just put down to low blood sugar

Forgot to add...the 'recovery' you describe after throwing up also very familiar. The weirdness would go and I'd be left with the headache and feeling very shaky but much more normal.

Sorry, meant to say that I hope you feel better soon
