14 year old sleeping most of the day

My 14 year old DS has been sleeping most of the time, thought nothing of it as teenagers like to sleep. Last couple of days this has escalated to him sleeping around 20 hours out of every 24, he's not bothered about being up for food, he cant stay awake to do his online schooling, I have to leave him to do the school work alone as he gets anxious if i'm watching (he has autism) within about 10 minutes of leaving him to get on with it he's back asleep!
He's not been staying awake during the night, so that's not the cause, as there is someone awake all night here and we can see he's asleep for the night.
I'm starting to get concerned, he's not been unwell, he says hes not feeling unwell, no temperature etc.
A year ago in feb (and also the Novermber before ) he was seen in A&E a couple of times due to self harming at school and we are still on the waiting list for CAMHS for some kind of therapy, but obviously there's been a delay due to covid ( well i'm presuming its due to covid! )
He's not self harmed at all while we have been in lock down, he only does that at school, he says it's because he feels overwhelmed in school.
So I'm not sure how worried I should be, I'm obviously going to ring our GP tomorrow and see what they say, but i'm just worrying tonight I suppose after trying to wake him up multiple times to do things and him waking up for a bit then straight back to sleep.
Was wondering if he has a vitamin deficiency maybe, or even the possibility of depression.
I'ts completely out of character too, he's always has a reduced need for sleep, his usual pattern has been sleeping from midnight till 7 am.
I may be worrying about nothing and maybe this is just what teens do!

You do need to talk to your GP. I had similar with my ds 15 a month ago. He had to be tested for diabetes and Addison's disease. If it had been either of those he would have needed fairly rapid treatment. Thankfully it was neither - it was vitamin d deficiency and he's on a high dose of vitamin d now and getting back to normal. He's also about to start melatonin just to help get him back on track.

The odds are it's nothing serious, but you do need to follow up on it pretty quickly just in case it is. Good luck!

Thank you for your reply, I'll definitely be ringing the docs first thing.
I was thinking maybe it might be vitamin D deficiency, purely due to lockdown and being stuck indoors so much!
I bought us all vitamin D supplements to take, but he refuses.
