I think it's like my fitness pal you're supposed to log your food. I couldn't really work it out either but a friend is using it and likes it.

bonfireheart · 11/02/2021 23:00

Yep it's like my fitness pal.

newclub · 12/02/2021 06:14

In that case do i bother paying then? Or just stick with my fitness pal

I’ve actually just started it and I don’t like it (yet). MFP is far better for logging food, the only diff I can really see is that Noom gives you some basic recipes and daily guides. I told it to message me if I didn’t log for two days and it hasn’t. I might be doing it wrong.

NotFromHere99 · 12/02/2021 06:24

I've tried both and only just gone back to mfp. Noom has more of a coaching element to it, they'll send you reminders and tasks, things to read. I prefer the simplicity of just logging my food.

Bumblebee413 · 12/02/2021 06:31

I have. I got very frustrated with it initially. It just seemed very peppy and didn't give me enough information, but it's because it doesn't want to mentally overload you. After a rough start I got on really well with it and I both lost weight and enjoyed it. I would definitely give it the benefit of the doubt to begin with. I lost 5kg then got pregnant Blush x

bonfireheart · 12/02/2021 10:09

MFP also gives you recipes and exercise plans and tips.

tawnytowel · 12/02/2021 10:48

Well done @Bumblebee413 and congrats on the pregnancy. How long did it take for 5kg?

GinasGirl · 12/02/2021 12:20

I did and just didn't get on with it. Save your money and go with MFP.

I did a 2 week trial and thought it definitely wasn’t worth the money to carry on. I log all my food on Fitbit (which is easier) and I got fed op with reading a variation of the same stuff (in a long winded and waffly way) every day. I thought I’d have been given some sort of plan instead of being told to ‘simply believe’

In some ways it was helpful in getting me to identify patterns of overeating but I found the language quite irritating and got fed up with it after a week or so.

I’ve carried on logging all my food on Fitbit and walking more and I’ve lost 6kg since January and it hasn’t cost me anything like what Noom would have cost.

I'm in a similar situation here, although I'm now using MyFitnessPal to log food.

I'm slowly losing weight by watching what I eat (I even have chocolate in moderation), and by walking more (aided by wfh with no long commute cutting into my day).

A point to note for Noom users - it's very hard to cancel and stop payments, I ended up going round the houses in a long winded process before successfully cancelling.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 12/02/2021 15:06

What is it exactly ? The advert implies that a chicken is the same amount of calories as a bottle of coke ( well yeah ) but is that it? I guess I know the calories content of most things , do some people really not have a clue? I hate that it's a secret !

LuvMyBoyz · 12/02/2021 15:47

I read just about every review going about Noom because I just couldn’t believe there was something different out there worth paying for. The worst thing about them was their returns policy just didn’t work (no response from the) and they took further money after the 2 week trial that they wouldn’t return if you were even a day late after cancelling it.

The diet is the same for every woman...1200 calories a day. Food is deemed ‘good’ if it is simply less calorie dense. There are many complaints about the personal trainers being like ‘bots’ and not responding to specifics.

What swung it for me to avoid them, though, was that it was most useful for people who were not yet aware of healthy eating as it was basic dietary information that was given. It’s all out there somewhere.

HouseyHouse21 · 12/02/2021 15:55

It's glorified calorie counting. You'll lose weight by undereating at 12-1300 calories, then put it on again when you stop restricting. Classic diet cycle, but more expensive.
