I am goign to be completely honest. I can't handle this anymore. I'm not sure what I'll do. I'm in tears every day now and the rest of the time just feel completely and utterly numb as if I'm doing everything on autopilot. Keep shoutinbg at the children - rate its going they'll get Stockholm Syndrome being coooped up with me as I am

DS (8) needs almost constant supervision to get him to do any work at all or even to sit in his chair. HIs school have great distance learning but I'm exhausted trying to get him to do it even with online classes. DD is 15. She's great at doing the work but is understandly stressed and lonely and worried about next years GCSEs and I feel like I'm getting the brunt of it.

I work part time and its the sort of job that requires high concentration levels. I can't just stop to answer questions about everything under the sun (including the flipping sun).

I'm breaking. Half term starts tomorrow. Hopefully a week of not home schooling will help and then I''ll be counting the days until March 8th but I'm so desperately worried they won't go back and I'm not sure what I'll do or how I'll cope.

DP helps as much as he can but most of its falling on me.

Sorry don't knwo what I'm saying except that i dont thknk I can hold out much longer and its messing up my children so badly.

Well, we've just had a very interesting email from the headteacher at dd's school (shes 5 in reception) basically saying
The staff have been on a zoom this morning in advance of the announcement on Monday

It said - "while we expect the prime minister to make announcements for schools to open as of 8th March, within our school community, we as a staff, along with the governing body have decided that we will be implementing a "phased return" approach and not all children will be back in school on a full time basis and that they are currently considering various options to minimise the spread of covid19 amongst staff and children"!

Has anyone else had anything like this?

@Ahmnotacat

These threads always go the same way. Childish responses like ‘drink more!’ And ‘Stop the children doing any more remote leaning!’

It’s so petulant. Like that’s going to do anything except damage their own liver or reduce their own kids’ chances?

I don't think that's petulant. It's people realising that the rules are the rules, but that they aren't coping. I'm a lone parent of 3 young DCs, made redundant due to covid and not eligible for much help beyond £74.35 weekly job seekers allowance until I've run through the savings that were meant to be a house deposit - and how on earth can I get a job right now, I can barely manage an interview, and can't take any of the low paid short term work available as have no-one who can care for my kids while I do it, without paying out more in childcare than I'll be earning.

I'll keep trudging on with home learning but I have no doubt that I'll eat more crap food, spend too long on websites like MN or let the kids watch too much TV, because all our other coping strategies are falling like fucking flies right now.

The government announcement was always going to be on Monday. However as we know by now there are little leaks prior to their major announcements and it seems that the unions have all banded together because they seem to think that the government 's announcement will be a full return to school. The unions are against this and have written to them asking to reconsider and to implement a phased return. This is probably why some people have been contacted by school. They're pre-empting any daft announcement by Boris. Basically suggesting that they don't feel confident that the government will make the safest decision...
