Help me find my GCSE exam board from 1998 please! Borough of Merton.

Evening MNers

I need to present my GCSEs to gain access to a postgraduate course. My GCSEs are lost in the sands of time. As per all the advice I've found online, I've contacted my old school, but they've said that their records don't go back that far and hav suggested that I contact the three main exam boards individually. Unfortunately all come at a cost of between £43 and £49 just to do the search, with no guarantee that they even have them.

I'm happy to pay it once, to get the results, but would rather not do three searches.

So I'm looking for your help please. If you sat your GCSEs in Merton in 1998 and you know, could you tell me which awarding body was used please?

Thank you!

Your friend’s Record of Achievement is your best bet.

I did great expectations, Romeo and Juliet and Of mice and men. The exam board was AQA. I still have my marked and moderated coursework. I'm West Yorkshire though and this was 2006

Ricards Lodge the year before was NEAB for English Lang and Lit 100%

How does it work if you sat exams with a board that no longer exists? I think finding people you went to school with is probably the best bet but I don't know where that leaves you if it was with an exam board that no longer exists?

I sat my GCSEs in 1996 and have certificates from 3 different exam boards as different subjects were different boards.

@DwarfQuasar

The current exam boards evolved from the old ones so acquired their records

In 1998 I don’t think AQA existed. It was made up later my amalgamation of a number of boards.
NEAB was the northern exam board. I did lots of these but am from the north. My Drama was SEG tho (southern).
Info on here might be useful when you discover the exam boards from your friends:

@Rockbird

I was down the road in the Ursuline but I'm buggered if I can remember what our boards were.
I missed this one. Hello fellow local person (back then anyway). Though according to old rivalry, we should not speak Grin

So its looking like AQA is the one that is most likely to have absorbed my old results. This is fabulous sleuthing. Thank you all.

My GCSEs were in 1998 (not in your town) but I had AQA, EdExcel, and a couple of others, so I think it depends on the subject as well.

Mine were thrown out by my late father when my late mother left him.

Oh god I was reading this thinking how long ago 1998 was amd then I realised I sat my GCSE equivalents in 1993.

Off to bed feeling suitably ancient!!!

Stressedout1980 · 09/02/2021 23:54

I probably was; still had my trusty record of achievement as had to show mine for a job not so long ago

Clearing out my loft today, I didn't find my results, but I did find, randomly shoved in a bag of old letters, my Candidate Timetables, stapled together.
So now I not only have the exam board (you were all right, different exam boards for different subjects), but I also have the Centre Number, the dates of the exams and my Candidate Number. Useful as my friend hasn't come back to me.

Gold star for those that said NEAB for English in 1998!

Thank you for all your help.

Do a Subject Access Request for an email proof of results. Means you don't have to pay the £50. There's guidance to do it if you google the name of the exam board and subject access request. That's what I did and it was all accepted for my post grad.

I hope the SAR route works out cheaper
