Anyone familiar with Quinton and Halesowen?

Possible job move to Birmingham and we're looking at these areas. Schools not a factor any more. Would like to live in Harborne but too expensive. Proximity to motorway is attractive as lots of travelling to Manchester.

Any views on Quinton and Halesowen or anywhere else nearby?

I live on the border between Harborne/Quinton/Bearwood. Would have loved Harborne but too pricey. You might find something around Warley Woods which is lovely.

CurrentWife · 09/02/2021 20:48

Used to live in Bearwood and loved it!

tinseloatcake · 09/02/2021 20:51

I'd say Bearwood too. Quite up and coming, easy to get to city centre, access to nice restaurants in harborne. Relatively more for your money. Gentrifying fast mind.

KingsHeathen · 09/02/2021 22:01

I do like Warley Woods/Bearwood actually. Again, most houses are 3-beds though.
I had a friend who walked her dog in Warley Woods every day- it's really nice.

Whereabouts in Birmingham is the new job?

Halesowen is very convenient for the motorway and good bus service to Birmingham, although traffic jams along Hagley Road can make the journey long for the distance .

The town centre isn't very nice, but there are some nice housing estates and it's convenient to get out to the Worcestershire countryside, a lot of nice pubs for eating in surrounding villages . Convenient for Merry Hill shopping centre .

Stourbridge similar in regard to situation with countryside access, the town centre is nicer, housing is a bit more expensive , further to the motorway but there is a train station into Birmingham .

Hagley is a nice village, has train station access but pricier .

Bearwood, yes it's nice by Warley Woods, not too far to junctions 2 or 3 M5 and easy access to Birmingham . Don't like the town centre at all but it's very close to Harborne which is quite nice for local shops and restaurants.

As others have said, Quinton doesn't really have a centre has such.

Definitely Bearwood! I lived there for 6 years (having previously lived for a short time in Quinton - not so nice). You want to be on the Warley Woods side of the high street.

Lolly34h · 09/02/2021 22:32

I live the bear wood side of Warley woods and it's lovely. Open space good transport links to Birmingham

muffinheaven · 09/02/2021 22:45

@Shelfdust

I love the look of the Lapal area and I've been hearing today about the glorious number 9 bus!

I think Hagley is out for the same reason as Harborne.

I'm reluctant to go further into the city (Bourneville, Kings Norton) because it's further to get to the M5.

You can’t beat the number 9 bus !! You could also look at Hunnington/Romsley, literally just outside Halesowen but smaller and more village like.

Thanks all, some food for thought.

I think you might struggle to find many four beds in Bearwood - most will be three bed semis/terraces unless they've been extended.

There's only one four bed in Bearwood listed I think on RightMove, it's in a decent enough area (I was brought up there and my family still live there).

Bromsgrove is expensive but you will find more four beds as there are plenty of newer builds, which you won't find at all in Bearwood.

Aston Fields, Marlbook and Stoke Heath/Stoke Prior and some other areas are decent and have properties that would fit the bill. I'd avoid Catshill personally.

mumtobabygilrl · 09/02/2021 23:35

Came on here to say bear wood, lovely community feel

NameChangerinDespair · 09/02/2021 23:49

There are some four-bedders on places like Lightwoods Hill, and roads like Willow and Poplar.

CrocodilesCry · 10/02/2021 23:15

Lightwoods Hill is lovely but will be well over the £400k budget I'd imagine. Willow and Poplar aren't Bearwood (they're Edgbaston).

NameChangerinDespair · 10/02/2021 23:31

Indeed @CrocodilesCry, I live on one of them, but they are as near to Bearwood as makes no difference and the boundary between Edgbaston and Bearwood is the bottom of my garden!

noblegreenk · 10/02/2021 23:54

I live in Birmingham so am familiar with both areas. I'd happily live in either area and have considered properties there but changed my mind as both areas are a bit to far for my commute. I personally prefer Halesowen over Quinton.
