Husband hair is falling out, is it the hairspray

Ages ago My husband was told that the use of hairspray will kill his hair and It will fall out if he carrys on using if.

Well today he notice his hair is really dry so He grabbed a section of his hair line and he pulled out a clump of hair with no pain, he then did it on the other side and all arou d his head and he pulled out clumps of hair.

What on earth is going on!?!? 😬😬😬

I don’t know but I use hairspray every day and my hair doesn’t do that 😬 is it dry from something else, like use of heat? Is it breaking away on the shaft or coming out at the root?

HelloMrBond · 08/02/2021 19:46

I’d also be questioning why your husband wears hairspray!

Chocolate2020 · 08/02/2021 20:32

He doesn't use heat and only slicks it back and sets it with spray

How often does he wash his hair, properly scrubbing the scalp? Product build up on the scalp can cause hair loss
Cpl415642 · 09/02/2021 11:34

I haven't heard of this happening before. Surely he is just going bald?

savanahnana · 09/02/2021 11:40

@HelloMrBond are men not supposed to use hairspray then?! Confused Both my dad and partner do Confused

I was also going to ask if he's washing it all out properly and not just letting it build up? How strange though, definitely never heard of it doing that!

Twizbe · 09/02/2021 11:58

My husband lost all his hair a few years ago - never used hairspray.

What do the hair follicles look like? Is there any regrowth coming through?

BashfulClam · 09/02/2021 12:02

@HelloMrBond why can’t Men use hairspray exactly? I’m really confused about that! Are their other hair products that a penis stops you using?

Seeline · 09/02/2021 12:08

A lot of men go bald. Is there any reason that he wouldn't?

Gilead · 09/02/2021 12:09

Could be alopecia. Definitely not hairspray.

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 09/02/2021 12:10

What is his dads hair like? Did he lose hair around the same age? That the best indication of how your husbands hair will be.

BillieSpain · 09/02/2021 12:12

Has he had Covid?

EvilEdna1 · 09/02/2021 12:12

I know a man who has alopecia and his hair went very dry and changed texture before it fell out. No hairspray!

Theunamedcat · 09/02/2021 12:13

You shouldn't just be able to pull clumps of hair out tell him to speak to his doctor

dogsaremypeople · 09/02/2021 12:18

Has he had covid? Hair loss is one of the symptoms after having covid

BluTangClan · 09/02/2021 12:30

Covid.

DH has alopecia, the first sign for him is that his hair goes dry and his scalp becomes itchy, it will then come out in a clump!

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 09/02/2021 12:35

Could it be natural hair loss but he's not washing it very often, so the spray is holding the hairs he'd lose daily together? Are there noticeable bald patches?

I think if hairspray caused hair loss it would be a big story with lots of lawsuits, all over the papers etc

Chocolate2020 · 09/02/2021 20:22

He hasn't had covid.

His head is really itchy.
He uses head and shoulders, there isn't any bald men In his dads or mother's side only the sides of the men's hair has thinned out.
His hair is coming out from the sides and top
His hair seems to slip out of the scalp easily

His scalp looked a bit flaky

I thought maybe stress or alopecia, it was odd that a hairdresser mentioned somthing and now he's able to pull clumps out.

Chocolate2020 · 09/02/2021 22:56

He washes it often, no noticble bald patches.
I wash shocked when he said to me '' look at my hair its so dry and he just pulled it and it came out... But when I inspected the hair it was soft and silky 🤔🤔

My DSs hair was coming out in clumps a few months ago, turns out it was a side effect of Propranolol. Its stopped since he stopped taking it. Is he on any new medication?

Twizbe · 10/02/2021 06:48

It sounds like his scalp is irritated. Stop the hairspray and see a doctor.

Alopecia often presents as patches that are smooth and no obvious irritation.

Xerochrysum · 10/02/2021 07:36

@BluTangClan

Covid.

In my native country's news, they were talking about what sort of after effect covid survivors are experiencing. One of them was hair loss.
PersonaNonGarter · 10/02/2021 09:27

Stress?

Losing hair that dramatically is not topical. He has some kind of alopecia.
