Where to do A levels as a adult?

I want to go to uni, as a mature student (I'm 28) I have just been made redundant, so thought now would be a good idea to get more of a career, I want to do a medical course, so will need some A levels, any suggestions on online places that will be accepted by uni's? Many thanks

I would ask the unis what they suggest, especially currently- I've done languages to AS level through evening classes, but there aren't many of those running currently, especially in subjects like sciences, which may never have been available at evening class. The university should be able to tell you about applying with non-standard qualifications and what qualifications other successful candidates have used.

Local FE college. Does the course accept Access courses or only A level?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 08/02/2021 13:35

It's not on line as such but Wolsey Hall do A levels as distance learning .

A friend of mine did a medical practitioner degree having first completed a health Access course. Would this be an option for you. It seems to prepare you to study for a degree much better than A levels do

Thanks for all your replies, I contacted the nearest uni that does the course I want to do, and they said about doing 60 credits at open university.

Echo pp. Access to health is specifically for mature learners wishing to enter university health related courses. They are L3 and funded, albeit it in different ways depending where in the UK you are. they are more suitable then OU L4 courses which will eat up your University funding pot or A levels.

Thanks! Is there specific website which shows all access courses?

You definitely want an Access course, they’re better prep for uni as well. Best bet is to look at your local colleges and see if any do Access courses and if so which ones. Colleges that do them tend to each do a random selection.

Do check with the unis you want to apply to what they take.
My local uni wanted 5 GCSE s along with an access course which I thought defeated the whole point?

Eeve · 08/02/2021 18:02

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit surely Access is a highly level than GCSEs??

immh · 08/02/2021 18:51

Thanks @Ihopeyourcakeisshit I have asked and they have said English and maths at a C which I have, I want to do operating department practice.

Well worthy course! Do it!!

In my 40s I did an access course in social sciences before applying to read psychology. It was in a local FE college and got me back into the discipline of reading, researching and exams. I went on to get a 1st at my preferred uni, as well as a masters and doctorate. Then I went into academia. Its never too late.
