Desperate to replace mattress HELP!

So we’ve had our mattress for 5 years but we’ve wanted to replace it for 3 years. It’s an awful hard and horrible IKEA Hovag one which was all we could afford after buying our first house, it was fine at first but quickly deteriorated and now I dread to go to bed and struggle to sleep it’s just so uncomfortable!

So we were thinking of splashing out, tempur, eve that kind of thing, but we can’t try mattresses in shops because of Covid but I’m at the end of my rope, 2-3 hours of broken sleep a night is killing me I want a quick solution and a nice nights sleep!

I love my Tempur matress. Third one I have had over the last 25 ish years.

Soooooo comfortable. Would never sleep on anything else now

Could you go for one with a trial period? I recently had the Emma, wasn't for me sadly. Needed something much firmer but was able to try it for a few nights before sending it back at no cost

We've just had got an Eve mattress - had it about 3 weeks now. I'm really impressed. We bought the sprung one with a memory foam top - it was about £600, and we're both really happy with it - it's a definite improvement! Took nearly three weeks to arrive and it was a gamble as we couldn't try it but a bit of research showed that they do stand up to their '100 days trial' guarantee (although I'm sure it's a bit of a hassle to go down that route as it could leave you without a mattress again!).

@alltheadrenalin I’ve heard really negative things about the trial ones, that it’s a massive faff to get them to come collect it, if they even collect it!

We got a nectar one a few months ago, love it so much. It took a bit.of getting used to after a sprung/memory foam mix but once I did its amazing.

Got a bundle with pillows and a bedding set, was about £600 I think. Couldn't be happier with the mattress, quilt and pillows tho the bedding is a bit shiny for me, despite being naice cotton.

They do a years trial as well and a lifetime guarantee.

I started a thread about mattresses a couple of weeks ago, here.

Might be a few pointers or opinions on there that could help you.

Plonque · 07/02/2021 18:06

I should add, I haven't taken the plunge yet so can't add anything constructive.
I've had a dunlopillo mattress that was insanely expensive but very good (bought before kids! Can't afford that now) and I currently have a dreams mid-level one that has been ok but not lasting that brilliantly.

We got an idea one a few months ago. Literally the most comfortable thing I've ever slept on.

DONT buy a Simba. I hate ours. It has a massive dip in the middle and isn't very comfortable.

alltheadrenalin · 07/02/2021 18:14

Mine was no bother getting it returned, however it was November time. Can't remember what stage of lockdown/rules then 😆

YogaLite · 07/02/2021 18:55

@Plonque, snap! I also mourn my Dunlopillo Sad

I am also researching myself but so far I know I don't want a memory foam (too hot) or springs.

I tried latex with zones but had to return it as it gave me backache (major faff it was too). I subsequently was warned against zonal mattresses and I agree, not for me.

I even had a very informative exchange of views with a company that cuts latex to size (still not cheap) but find it hard to decide without trying whether to go for medium or firm. They actually suggested 2 layers, one each that can be simply fliped if needed. I would say many mattresses are seriously overengineered and that's why it's impossible to choose.

I have a low bed and I don't want a thick mattress so I am now leaning towards orthopedic reflex foam which I hope it's nearest in feel if not in the content to latex (fingers crossed!).

In the shop just before lockdown and I liked VI for the feel but it was a spring mattress so not for me.

PS. OP, as a short term fix u could get a topper, they are not expensive and might be useful anyway even in the future if only hardness of your current one is a problem.
