For the first time in my life I have stayed in bed all day

I have stayed in bed and drunk Diet Coke and eaten left over pizza and a bar of Diary Milk. I have read books, listened to GQT, watched a film on Netflix and browsed MN.

I can't believe that I have never done this before! I can't imagine it happening in my parents' home growing up. As a young adult I studied and worked and volunteered so much. I can't believe how much fun being middle-aged is!

I don’t know if I’ve ever completely done this but I want to! My husband has taken the children for a long walk and I’ve got work, housework, cooking to do and ive decided to watch The Drowning and eat chocolate 😄

Needsmustnow · 07/02/2021 14:24

I'm not sure I can last all day, and DP has announced he's about to hoover, which will be a bit noisy. About to start a second film, this time staring Emma Thompson.

Do it! I would go back to bed if I could!

High fives Angelic

It’s only 2.30 - you’ve got loads of time before you can claim “all day”. Settle in - it’ll be time for a nap soon, it’s very tiring doing nothing Grin

Timeforabiscuit · 07/02/2021 14:29

If I can humbly suggest a mid afternoon bath with a trashy but fun book, followed by clean pyjamas and a takeaway?

Sparklingbrook · 07/02/2021 14:32

I did this a few times during Lockdown #1 when I felt there was nothing worth getting up for.

Felt like being ill though and by the evening it felt a bit odd to be preparing to go back to the bed I'd been in all day. Grin

But it's not much different to lolling about on the sofa under a throw which seems much more acceptable.

TurquoiseDragon · 07/02/2021 14:37

I find there's always something I need to do. Either I'm at work (from home) or doing personal stuff.

But now and again, I schedule a day for doing nothing and staying in bed.

I have late teen DC, so I make sure I've got food in, chores done the day before, and crucially the teens know not to bother me unless urgent. Well, I don't mind them coming in for a chat, but if they want anything doing they can do it themselves.

I've got a couple of days off at the end of this week, so I think I feel another lazy day coming on.

Needsmustnow · 07/02/2021 14:42

I think I've stayed in bed rather than head for the sofa because the house is freezing.
Although I'm pretty cheerful, I was wondering if it's a bit of lockdown/February blues as life feels pretty limited at the moment - very little to do and nowhere to go.
I'm wondering if it'll be difficult to sleep tonight after being in bed all day. I might end up getting dressed and going for a walk because it feels very unhealthy not to outdoors at least once a day.

@TurquoiseDragon I think I'm a convert.

I just can't believe that I didn't do this a teen or in my 30s or something.

People have never done this? It's a monthly occurrence for me I must be lazy as sin 😂

Needsmustnow · 07/02/2021 15:02

No, you're just very sensible.

I remember reading in my youth that women should have at least one day each month to stay in bed all day. Its the law in my houseGrin

Horsemad · 07/02/2021 15:10

I did it a few weeks ago, was fab! 😆

katy1213 · 07/02/2021 15:10

You're a novice. It's only 3pm - it barely counts yet. However, you are allowed to get up, make a pot of tea and go back to bed.

DavidsSchitt · 07/02/2021 15:40

"feels very unhealthy not to outdoors at least once a day."

Don't be daft. Stay in bed

BeBesideTheSea · 07/02/2021 15:47

I woke up 10 mins ago - went to bed at midnight and sleep about an hour later. It’s lovely

MiJulee · 07/02/2021 15:55

I do it A LOT! I'm 42. Sometimes you just have too

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 07/02/2021 15:55

I have only ever done this when sick, never appealed to me before kids BUT since I had my first 8 years ago, I dream of staying in bed all day !!
As soon as kids are old enough to look after themselves for the whole day ( looking at about 8 years away Sad) I’m going to do it at least once a month !

OliverBabish · 07/02/2021 15:58

I wasn’t allowed to stay in bed growing up, not even for a lie in - simply wasn’t allowed!

Now I’m in my 30s and I still struggle to shake the guilt of having a duvet day! They are lovely and my parents were v v mean

sueelleker · 07/02/2021 16:04

The only time I did this was after a knee replacement, so I don't suppose it counts. It got very boring after a few days.

Needsmustnow · 07/02/2021 16:17

Yes, I imagine it's very different if you're not in bed by choice Flowers

I've just realised that I've spent the last hour doing some admin work for my volunteering role. Might need to try harder for the rest of the day.

It might be a winter thing, but I have done this in summer.

Needsmustnow · 07/02/2021 20:15

Now in the bath. I have a headache, no doubt from all the rubbish I have consumed today. The best things are that I tried something for the first time and I had quite a still, mindful day. I think I tend to distract myself with busy-ness.

Sounds like a good day!
