15yo weekend bedtime

DS is 15. On weekends (Fri & Sat nights) he is allowed to stay on his PlayStation until midnight, with an understanding that he goes to sleep by 12.30am.
Does this sound fair?
I know a lot of people will say I should allow him to self regulate and that 15 is too old for a ‘bedtime’, but my fear is if I gave him completely free reign he would probably stay up gaming until 2-3am and then be rendered useless all weekend (he is not one to sleep in, no matter what time he goes to sleep and would still be awake on the PlayStation by 8am and be really grumpy all day).
Just wondered what other parents of teens do?

I think during lockdown, providing he is up on time for online school, is let him do what he wants for fri and Sat night (indoors).

Gaming off 10pm..
Lights off 11pm

Anything after that his attitude is vile the next day. And makes our life a living hell

During the week, when he has to be up for school zoom lessons, the PlayStation goes off at 9pm and he is in bed by 10-10.30pm.
It’s just weekends I struggle with. I think midnight is late enough to be gaming but he obviously disagrees!

I think that sounds fair enough.

Our 15 year old goes to bed when we do at weekends and at 8:30pm on school nights (but she has to be online for school at 7:30am, if she had a more British school day she'd go up at 9:30pm on school nights).

She doesn't have lights out but she doesn't game in the evening, just reads.

Nobody games before 7am or after 7pm in our house (gaming consoles are in communal rooms) including DH...

I think what matters most is how much sleep they need and how they are, some people like staying up late naturally.

I think midnight sounds reasonable .

Mochatatts · 07/02/2021 17:09

It sounds totally reasonable. I'm not sure why you wouldn't give your child a rough bedtime. They are still children even at 15 and don't always make sensible decisions.
