Restless baby

My 6 week old just won't sleep. She's eating well and is easy to get wind up, then she falls asleep in my arms but the second I put her down she's thrashing her arms and legs about which in turn makes her sick. I'm then going round in circles having to change her cot sheets and clothes because it's not just a bit of spit up, it's what seems like gallons of the stuff!
I'm at my wits end because she's taking at least 2 hours to get to sleep and then by the time she does go to sleep she's ready for another bottle.
Can anyone help with a way to stop her thrashing? She refuses to sleep in a sleeping bag that just makes her worse and she constantly kicks blankets off. Sad

It's not the thrashing that's making her sick, it's the lying flat on her back. Tip the head of her cot, and speak to your HV or GP because that sounds like reflux to me, and it can be simple to fix with medication.

Also, she's thrashing because she's uncomfortable, likely due to the reflux.

Babies spend 9 months inside, right next to us.
To suddenly not be next to us can be a bit unsettling for them.

You could try swaddling to stop her flailing her arms. There's a natural reflex that makes them do that, you just have to wait til they get past it. But in the meantime you can swaddle or use a sleeping bag that poppers at the arms. I used an Ergo one I think. My DD loved it.

Also, I'd agree with PP on tilting her cot. Their sphincters haven't properly developed sometimes so this is another one to ride out. About 3 or 4 months it'll stop being so bad. So being placed flat just allows all of it to come back out again. Sick always seems alot more than it actually is. My DD was the same. Lay her flat too quickly or jiggle her around too much and bleeeeeeeurgh 😂 it all came back up again. DD was never bothered by it though so I was pretty sure it was okay (DS was a different story. Colic. It was horrendous)

If she's not distressed when she's being sick I'd say it might not be reflux. Refluxy babies tend to scream the house down.

She just wants to be near you, after all that time in the womb. Have a look at "fourth trimester" online.

Thank you everyone Smile I'll try tilting her cot to see if that helps. I've got the HV coming this week so I'll ask her then about reflux but she's not distressed at all so I'm not sure it's that, just me that's distressed 😂
I'll also look into the Ergo bags, happy to try anything at the minute because I'd like her to be in sleeping bags before she starts rolling over, also I'm worried she's getting cold in the night!

Christ yes, look into reflux. All three of mine have suffered to varying degrees. It doesn't have to make them that distressed, especially so young.

And some people might take this the wrong way, but the HV will probably be a bit useless on reflux. Speak to a GP.

Also agree re the fourth trimester. But I'm lazy in that mine have all slept on or next to me as babies as I can't be doing with being up and down in the night.
