'Raising money for disadvantaged kids at local school' justgiving posts on facebook

I feel a bit heartless but I saw this posted on a local Facebook page for my borough with a link to a justgiving page. 'Please give what you can to buy resources for disadvantaged kids at a -name of borough- school. Just says local school, no name and it has just made me dubious. She doesnt say if she is a teacher, mum or what connection she has. My first thought was that it is a scam trying to cash in. Am I just being cynical?! People are donating....

I'd agree, but then I tend to be very sceptical of such things.

Problem is that it can be easy for someone to set up and have great intentions and just end up not quite knowing what to do about it, as well as someone who doesn't have good intentions.

We used to have someone posting regularly on a local chat asking for X for "local school" (her words, so unnamed). They were normally quite big items.
Eventually someone challenged her which school and she eventually named one that's about 20 miles away. I believe the school was contacted and found they hadn't received anything.
I presume she's banned because haven't heard her since then.

Could you tag the school in maybe?

Yes I'm naturally sceptical. It is just the lack of specifics. She doesn't name the school and we are a large borough with around 30 schools . Also, no specific items that are being fundraiser for just 'resources'. Very odd.

IME, despite tight budgets, schools can and do make sure the most in need children have the resources they need.

@Toorapid that's my experience too and it just seems a little late in the day to be raising money for resources when it is half-term at the end of next week with a potential lifting of lockdown the following month being talked about.

Schools have been pretty coordinated in their approach and I'm not sure why there wouldn't be a direct link to the PTA or mention of the school. Obviously I'm the only one who thinks it is suspect as they have already raised a few hundred quid!

Sounds like a scam sorry.
