School rucksack for teen boys

Tried searching as I know it's been covered before but the search function on here is crap.

Has to be black, small logos allowed
Needs to carry a ridiculous amount of books and text books.
At least slightly waterproof, gets the bus but bag gets left on ground at lunchtimes whilst he plays football.
Is not embarrassing Confused I am not entirely sure what makes a bag embarrassing but there you go.

He has previously had Nike/Adidas bags which I have repaired but they are just not strong enough for the amount he seems to carry.

Targus are good if he doesn’t find them too embarrassing. I got one from work and passed it on to DS and it really stood up the the job.

Eastpack / Jansport - why is he carrying so many books? Does he have locker space or not?

Champagneforeveryone · 06/02/2021 11:45

DS has this one. Prior to this he had a Berghaus Mule which lasted at least 4 years but is now too small for his folders. The initial outlay seems expensive but is well worth it IMO

Superdry bags are extremely durable. DS is now 19, and still has his Y7 bag - he yanked the front pocket off, but the rest of the bag is going strong. I should add that he has had other bags, but has a tendency to leave them on the bus....

Obviously my amazing recommendation would be more helpful if I actually attached the picture Grin

Carhartt?

smoothchange · 06/02/2021 12:20

DS used a Fjallraven, not the Kanken, they sell decent proper sized backpacks too!

CMOTDibbler · 06/02/2021 12:24

DS has an Osprey rucksac in plain black. It has survived 3 years of abuse, and is waterproof (he cycles to school come rain or shine)

My DS uses a small hiking rucksack from mountain warehouse.

Dakine campus, they come in 27 or 33 litres, my youngest has the smaller one, my eldest the larger.
They have an insulated pocket for lunches, side mesh pockets for water bottles, separate compartments for books, papers, stationery etc, and a padded bit to protect laptops/tablets. Both sizes fit an A4 folder in (which was my basic requirement). DS's is plain black.
They're really tough and hard-wearing (as lots of skate brands are!). Dad's has actually been through the washing machine three times (though they don't recommend) due to lunch leaks/ink leaks etc, and survived well.
They both fit their books/folders/pe kits/lunch in without a need for extra bags.

Thanks will look at these. I don't mind spending more if it will last.

He did have a locker (although these have been closed since covid) but he only used it for pe kit etc. He finds it easier for homework to keep everything at home and just take in what he needs each day.

Some subjects like languages have 3 exercise books plus a textbook. So with 6 lessons a day it can be a lot of books!
