Just that really. I've seen a set of puzzles that I would like to get but it says that its dispatched by Amazon_EU. It costs £7 something plus approx £5 delivery. I can see a note that says something like addition charges may apply. Does anyone know if I would have to pay customs/tax or any other fees if I were to order these puzzles? I don't really like buying stuff without knowing how much thry will actually cost in total.

I think you probably will. I'm in the EU and ordered from the UK and had to pay on delivery!

Oh nooo...maybe I'll leave it for now then. Thanks for replying Flowers

Is it Amazon EU Sarl or similar? I’ve got a few bits if so and never had to pay extra x

Amazon EU Sarl is a London based company and registered with the UK Companies House. There may be other associated companies elsewhere in Europe - I am not sure how the Amazon structure operates. But I bought something yesterday morning, it arrived today and there was no import fees as it came from Leeds! Why not phone and ask them? They will know where the warehousing is for stock, and there are several in the UK that I know of.

Thank you for replying. It says "Dispatched from and Sold by Amazon EU ". When i click on " Amazon EU " it says "Amazon EU (Amazon EU Sarl, DE Branch), helps you easily find products from the EU, make purchases and deliver with tracking to your doorstep. Customs is cleared on your behalf, providing a seamless end-to-end shopping experience."

The "DE" makes me think its in Denmark.

DE is for Deutschland so Germany. Although the bit about customs being cleared for you sounds reassuring although the new taxes are GB taxes. You'll have to ask them I think.

5lilducks · 05/02/2021 08:50

@bitheby thanks for replying. DE is for Deutschland indeed! Blush👍

Also check how much the threshold is for paying import duty/VAT. I think it's £15 for goods from the rest of the world, so an item under a tenner from the EU wouldn't be liable for duties anyway.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcoln · 05/02/2021 09:03

I've bought from Amazon.de since the transition period ended and I haven't had to pay any extra customs/import duty. The thing to be careful of is to make sure that what you are buying is fully made in the EU as goods that originated outside the EU do attract extra duty when being sent here (and this is not always easy to tell). As long as that is not a problem, you should be fine. When you buy from amazon, the price is clearly broken down with VAT levied at the point of sale, so you know that this has been paid (many of the problems in the press are from people buying from smaller companies where VAT hasn't been levied at the point of sale - because it can be a hassle for the companies to do as they need to register with the UK authorities - and then the consumer is asked to pay it at the point of delivery -with a handling fee applied - which is an extra cost that they weren't expecting).

Actually I take back my last comment. Rather alarmingly have just checked the gov.uk website and seen this:

www.gov.uk/guidance/vat-and-overseas-goods-sold-directly-to-customers-in-the-uk

"Low value consignment relief (LVCR), which is an import VAT exemption for goods valued at £15 or less, has been removed [my emphasis] in:

- Great Britain for goods imported from outside the UK
- Northern Ireland for goods ordered remotely that are imported from outside the UK and EU"

Does that mean the £15 exemption has been removed on all items coming in from outside the UK?!

HavfrueDenizKisi · 05/02/2021 09:11

No you won't.

You are purchasing from Amazon.co.uk and it's not your issue where they dispatch the item from so there will be no costs.

I've ordered a few bits the last two weeks dispatched for Amazon EU sarl and they've arrived next day with no charges.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 05/02/2021 09:13

This is obviously different is you choose to buy from an EU company/website where charges will occur.

Yes you have to pay VAT. This is either paid at the point of sale (which should be applied for all goods under £135) or at the point of import. But if your buying from Amazon it will be levied at the point of sale, which you will clearly see on the price breakdown before you hit "pay now".
GregoryGrainneog · 05/02/2021 09:13

I've bought a tweezerman product on Amazon UK last week (couldn't find in stock in Ireland). As it was valued under €21 including delivery, I paid no extra VAT. This little concession is only going to continue until July, as far as I know.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcoln · 05/02/2021 09:14

*you're buying from Amazon.

Just to be clear - both I and the OP are talking about purchasing directly from Amazon.de not from Amazon.co.uk

You could do the Amazon CS chat to clarify - always find them helpful. Then at least you have it in writing.
