Gloss v painted kitchen doors

We're looking at having a new fitted kitchen but I'm torn between what to have. I'm going for plain white as I want it to stand the test of time. We currently have painted wooden doors which I don't think clean very well and over time have ended up looking quite grubby.

Are gloss doors easier to wipe down or do they become discolored?

I'm wondering whether I'm better sticking to painted doors as I know there are now companies who will spray them so they can be refreshed every now and then. Has anyone had this done and if so was it (a) expensive and (b) successful?

Any opinions/thoughts gratefully received!

We painted (decorator) - they do chip which is annoying so every couple of years need painting again.
Looked better than dark wood.

We have gloss slab doors which are dead easy to clean.

Which is good, because I seem to live in a house of people who do nothing but wipe their dirty greasy hands all over them. Why use handles when you can just use your sweaty hands.

I wouldn't get them again, not just because of the finger marks - because I can at least see when they are clean, I'd never wipe them otherwise so I hate to imagine how manky our last kitchen was; but because of the ease with which it chips. At least wood would dent.

Shiny look a bit dated now and I always see them with loads of finger marks

I have gloss and I wouldn’t choose them again, you can see every little mark.

Thanks everyone. Interesting to hear about gloss showing the marks. Would be interested to hear from anyone who's has painted doors re-sprayed.

I'm about to have mine done so following here too.

Mine is white gloss and 9yrs old. It doesn't show fingermarks and is really, really easy to clean. It hasn't yellowed and I still love it.
But I would proceed with caution, my IKEA white gloss wardrobes (which weren't cheap) have yellowed, some doors more than others which makes it worse. We don't smoke and the wardrobes are in two different rooms, one facing N and one facing S, do the it's not a sunlight issue.
The kitchen is Magnet and has been fine.

And having read the other posts, I've no chips or dents either. We do have a couple of scratches from when my daughter sat on the worksurface and banged her shoes against the doors (grrr), but they are only visible close up.

I don’t get why people are so against gloss. The finger marks need a quick wipe and a buff with a microfibre cloth.

I’ve not had painted doors re sprayed but I did have a hand painted kitchen re painted by a decorator. Worked well. We had to do it this way as it was an in frame kitchen, so couldn’t just do the doors. But I imagine sending the doors to be repainted or sprayed would be cheaper and easier.

i went for gloss but pale blue acrylic wrapped and they are easy to keep clean i just use washing up liquid watered down in a spray bottle and a terry towelling tea towel to clean mine 8 months down the line mine still look as good as the day they were installed mind you no kids in this house

Thanks for the responses - I’m torn now! I think I prefer the look of the gloss doors. I did wonder whether they’d date more than painted ones but I see @SusannaSpider has had hers for 9 years and they’re still very modern.

We’ve had ours for six years. They look as good as new. They’re from a German company. I think you’d easily forget to wipe painted cupboards. With gloss, you can see where the marks are and it’s the work of seconds to wipe them.
