I saw my brother on the telly last night

We haven't seen each other in years, and that's the way I like it! But last night I had a true crime programme on - the kind where they use actors to reenact things.

I just happened to look up from my book and caught a glimpse of him (being a pretend policeman). And a few mins later, there he was, overacting his part as a customer in the background of a pub.

Really strange as this isn't the sort of programme I usually watch, and if I hadn't looked up at the tv at that exact moment I'd have been none the wiser!

Weird!

Do you mean he had two parts in the same programme? That is a bit odd.

If he is an actor, and you google him, you could probably find out more information if you want to.

ARoseDowntown · 04/02/2021 01:07

That coincidence is so weird it makes you wonder about destiny! How do you feel for having seen him?

BrandyTrap · 04/02/2021 11:21

Yes @Leeds2, he had two parts in the same programme. Years ago he wanted to be an actor but never got past being an extra.

@ARoseDowntown it's strange isn't it?! Obscure programme, obscure channel, not really watching etc. Seeing him made me realise that I don't want to see him if that makes sense!

It’s weird when that happens. My dad died suddenly about a decade ago, within a year of that then l saw him on TV twice. I thought I was going mad! But other people saw him to -my god mother saw one and l had recorded the other thing he was in. My mum agreed it was definitely him

BrandyTrap · 04/02/2021 11:30

I'm sorry about your Dad @WhatKatyDidNxt. It is strange isn't it?

Not really if they were non speaking parts. I was once an background extra in a film (a proper film with internationally known Hollywood name actors not a home produced lo budget production) and appeared four times in one scene in various costumes. It happens all the time.

Your recognition senses probably alerted you, its amazing how much sensory information we unconsciously take in all the time. And whenever I see someone I know acting it always seems really false and overacted.

BrandyTrap · 04/02/2021 12:14

Exactly that about it seeming false. He didn't even have a speaking part and I was cringing at the overacting.

Wow is this weird and fascinating. Do you feel like contacting him?

BrandyTrap · 04/02/2021 12:23

@Milomonster no, not at all. He did something I consider unforgivable which nearly ruined my dad (who, to confuse matters, wasn't my brother's dad - so he's actually my half brother).

OP posts:
Milomonster · 04/02/2021 12:25

Ahhh ok. I hope your dad is ok.

Radglags · 04/02/2021 12:27

Maybe this is the 5th it’s happened though and every other time you didn’t look up from your book! 👀

BrandyTrap · 04/02/2021 12:39

Thank you @Milomonster.

@Radglags - perhaps! Horrible thought though that he could pop up all over my tv!

My daughter acts and is no contact with her dad. A friend of mine overheard him in a local pub talking about how "proud" he was seeing his daughter on TV...even though he hasn't seen her since she was 3. I find that very weird.

BrandyTrap · 04/02/2021 12:56

Before you know it @alwayshappensonnye, he'll be giving the papers an interview about how it's thanks to him your Dd is where she is today!

Weird! Last year my ds16 went out with some friends in the evening (when you still could...sigh) and a friend texted me to turn on the tv and he was being interviewed by local news. Grin

BrandyTrap · 04/02/2021 13:23

@Sometimesonly hah! I hope he shoehorned in a mention of his fab mother!

alwayshappensonnye · 04/02/2021 16:43

@BrandyTrap I had thought of that! Thankfully I'm not a bitter person, so I have always told my daughter that his CMA monies have helped towards drama school...so he has had some involvement albeit not credit worthy ha!

HiveQueen · 04/02/2021 16:47

Years ago someone I was at secondary school with wasn’t allowed by his parents to leave the school premises at lunch time. Imagine their surprise when watching the local evening news and their son was walking along the local high street that lunch time.

CorvusPurpureus · 04/02/2021 17:11

TV is weird.

Many years ago, when I was a feckless student, a bunch of us lurched home to our shared house after a very good night out.

We did vaguely notice that the streets seemed a bit busy for that time of night, but went in rolled a spliff & were channel hopping on TV. Early 90s, not much to watch at 1am, so we ended up on BBC News 24.

Well, they were filming a huge street riot - local drug dealer had been caught in a sting operation & his mates had set fire to a local pub & were generally kicking off. We were chatting & so not really paying attention.

Someone said: 'erm - this looks a lot like our street'. The rest of us scoffed as it was a bog standard Corrie style terrace, but eventually peered out of the front door to shut her up.

There, 20 yards up the road, were 3 burning cars, a TV crew & a LOT of very angry people.

We'd staggered through the whole thing obliviously, Shaun of the Dead style.
