Tiny bastard flies - how do I get rid of them?

I’m fairly sure it’s related to the house plants which I have got more of over the last year.

They are all up in my shit all the time.
Bastards.

How do I make them stop?

Venus fly trap?

The fungus gnats live in the top layer of damp compost.

So water from the bottom, as PP have said. I also use a layer of sand and or grit/stones on the top of the compost, as they wont live there.

I've put egg shells on my plants, which seems to be helping. I'll try the cider vinegar next time I have a lot.

I recently chucked my lovely house plants because of bugs. Gutted but the flies really stressed me out so I've given up on living houseplants!

I sprinkled a small dusting of cinnamon on the soil of all my houseplants. The flies rapidly died off and now I can sit and watch TV without being facebombed by the little bastards.

@StanfordPines

Sticky fly paper seems old school. Is there not some lovely spray?
Fly paper won't harm your lungs.

Fungus gnats. We had them before Christmas. The yellow fly paper works and we had to get rid of the plant that was most affected.

That sounds like a plan. With the added bonus of things smelling like cinnamon.
