I am doing a house exchange and love the new house but really worried about the area, its E17 Walthamstow. Very mixed reviews but wondered if anyone lives there and can tell me if it is safe for an older lady and a teenager in that area? Thanks

I gew up not too far from Walthamstow and used to go there all the times as a teenager for the shopping centre/market/nights out

it was always fine and very diverse - v handy for tube and buses etc

It was fairly run down when i used to go there but i've been made aware it's been gentrified quite a bit, i think as long as you stick to main area you'll be fine. i never had any issues. bus station might be a bit dodgy at night but it's big and well lit and open as far as i remember

It’s alright there. Not the worst area I’ve been to. In regards to where is ‘safe’ I think it’s partially luck to be honest, same as many areas. Where are you moving from?

E17 isn’t a particularly small patch, it has some really gentrified areas, and some less so! A lot of new build developments in the past few years as well. ‘Safe’ is relative, it’s no different from many other areas of north/east London IMO.

Moving from Bedford and never lived in London

The house itself is in a clu-de-sac so quite safe its just when we are out and abut really. Then there is schools to sort as well as much more there than where I am from.

In all honesty I wouldn’t want to live in East London with a teenager if I wasn’t from London, but that’s not specific to E17

It’s fine. Lots for teenagers to do. Good transport links.

The William Morris Gallery and gardens are lovely.

My friend has lived there for years and is a dog walker so out and about all the time and she has never had any trouble.

Very close to the forest etc as well, short bus ride and you can be walking for hours in the woods :-) whilst at the same it’s a speedy tube to central London when everything opens up again. I think it’s fab location wise.

Just don't eat jacket potatoes whilst in the car, otherwise you might not be able to stay another day without medical treatment!

It's a pleasant area with good transport links. Pity the dog track has gone though.

Dog track isn’t gone gone, the facade still looks lovely lit up.
