My dd is just after breaking her top front tooth. I'm so upset, she was playing with her sister & lost her balance & fell. Its a permanent tooth & half of its gone.. She is seeing the emergency dentist at 7...is her smile ruined for life? Her teeth are so nice😭

Snapped one of my front teeth in half falling off my bike as a kid. I got a temporary cap then when I was older, a proper crown. I’ve had a couple as one just looked ridiculous. Don’t be amazed if they file it to a point, always fun when the cap fell off!

My ds broke his front tooth in half aged 9. He had a temporary crown for a while and then a full crown a few months later
He did need root canal on it though as the tooth had died from the impact. However that wasn't till a few years later and they replaced the crown.
He's 23 now and has had no problems with it

Is her smile ruined for life???? If she broke her arm would you ask a ruined her life question. Of course not. Dentist fix, mould, work miracles

Thanks again everyone, she got on very well. It was a clean break with no chips, the nerve was also undamaged luckily. The dentist did a nice job patching it up with filling. Back in 3 weeks, before & after pics attached. Now to keep the filling clean😭🙈x

Also any advice on foods? Thanks. Dentist said to avoid hard foods & chewy stuff for the next fortnight...

I broke both my front teeth like your daughter in an upside down V so had composite fillings - avoiding chewy stuff is right until they've set but after that I never had any problems. Funnily enough one of the fillings failed at the end of last year (just broke off) so I got a good 14 years out of them!

I know the dentist never mentioned this but I’d avoid acidic drinks like orange juice and fizzy pop too. Hope the above link helps.

@PolPotNoodle did yours discolour at all? Poor dds front teeth are so prominent when she talks also that I'm worried about discolouration.
Digital Christmas, that's a great link thanks so much x

@Pastasau nope, not in the slightest and I'm an red wine and coffee drinking smoker! I managed to get away with a reasonable degree of biting into things too but wouldn't recommend it, I just got lucky really.

Your DD looks so pretty and the dentist did a great job. It may or may not discolour - if it does, no big deal, as you have found a good dentist who can easily replace it.
Our dentist when I was a teen was not great and my parents never thought to seek a second opinion but the techniques seem much more slick these days.

Pastasau · 03/02/2021 09:42

@coronawirelss, she's a lovely dentist thankfully & I think she did an excellent job. It's just so sad to think it's permanent. We'll try our hardest to take care of it X
