How do you remember Mr Darcy and the lake?

I like reading about Mandela Effects and although I know logically it's just people misremembering, this one has puzzled me!

How do you remember the famous Mr Darcy scene in Pride and Prejudice?

Did Colin Firth
a. Emerge up out of the water wet

b. We didn't see him emerge, just walking along the bank afterwards

I thought you saw him coming out of the water too... so I’ve just been and watched that scene, lol

I think it’s because he’s standing in front of water talking - but it’s after he’s walked back and it’s not the lake, but because he’s wet and there’s water behind him you kind of misremember it.

We see him dive in, go under and swim then it cuts to his walk towards Pemberly.
Saw it for the first time in English class and my teacher kept rewinding the tape to watch him dive in again!

The Mandela effect is really fascinating. The Star Wars one is my favourite. Everyone quotes Darth Vader as saying “Luke, I am your father” and it’s been repeated and parodied a thousand times. But the line was just “I am your father”.

Don't think Jennifer Ehle was pregnant, didn't she and Colin have a fling during the series. Wasn't the actress who played the oldest sister pregnant?

SurvivalIsInsufficient · 02/02/2021 15:34

No she wasn't pregnant, her children were born years later. She and Firth got together on set and were a couple for a year after.

So funny! I re-watched the whole series last weekend and was SO disappointed with the lake scene - I had definitely misremembered it Grin. However instead of questioning my own memory I simply assumed that I must be watching an edited version Darcy-lite until I read this thread 🤣.

Susannah Harker not Jennifer Ehle

I binged it this weekend too! Def dives in but no emerging all wet and tasty.

I know some PPs mentioned Lost in Austen where he definitely does. Watch it if you can.
I’m such a regency pervert Grin
