Was reading a thread about young children saying hurtful comments just now and it reminded me of comments said yesterday where I had to leave the room to stifle hysterical laughter.
Was looking after granddaughter who is 4 yrs at my home. Grandad is usually out during the day but when he comes home he puts his work boots and tool bag away in the utility room.
He popped home yesterday afternoon and was being silly and lifting DGD high in the laundry basket. Behaviour began to deteriorate and he called her names like 'giddy kipper', 'funny onion', 'silly sausage'. She turned round and then said "well you're a dirty work boot" and the next one had me rushing to another room "you're a tool".
I know that if children think they're being funny they'll repeat what they've said. I'd be so ashamed if she came out with that 'clanger' a school and called someone else a tool.
We're still giggling about it today.
She had no clue what she was saying - she was just making up silly names as she thought grandad was doing.
I've often called grandad a tool in the past - but not in that context.
