Kobo e-reader for library books

Hello,
Does anyone use a kobo for downloading ebooks from the library?
If so, which one do you recommend and is it relatively easy to do? Can you do it directly from the device or does it involve plugging into a computer at some point?
Is the Kobo Arc basically a tablet so no good in the sun/ worse for eye strain?
Many thanks

Hopeful bump!

Also to add - I have a kindle but am specifically interested in ebooks from the library which I can only read on my phone at the moment which isn't ideal.

I have a Kobo Aura H2O. You need to have Adobe Digital Editions on your PC too (cant remember how the two are linked).

I access the library website with my laptop, download the books to ADE on my laptop, then connect the Kobo to the laptop with and (within ADE) copy the books to the Kobo.

On my previous Sony ereader I still needed ADE on my laptop but i didnt use it directly to access library books. The Sony ereader had wifi connectivity but was clunky to use so I would use my laptop to browse the library website to select the books, but then log in to the website from my ereader for the actual downloading.

To be fair, the Kobo Aura also has wifi and a internet browser. I should see if i can download direct to that.

I have a Kobo Clara and just use the WiFi to download library books. I find it a bit easier to search for them and borrow them on my phone before using the Kobo to download them.

I have a Kobo arc and use the overdrive app to access my library services and I can download books straight onto it. If I had to plug it in to a computer I would never bother!

I take mine on holiday and reading in the sun is fine but it is quite old now so I would imagine newer versions are even better.

Thanks, all. I am sure, like youreallyare, I also would never bother to connect to my computer, so it's good to know it can be done without that step.

I was thinking of the arc as you can use it for audiobooks I understand but that's not a must as I can always use my phone for that.

@SomethingNastyInTheBallPool, may I ask how this works, do you somehow link up your library login and get books that way? We use BorrowBox, overdrive and RB Digital for library books. I can see with an arc you would just use the library apps but am trying to understand how straightforward it is with a more traditional e-reader.

Thanks Flowers

I have a kobo Clara. Downloading library books depends on which service your library uses. Libby (overdrive) will download over Wi-Fi, BorrowBox you have to connect to a computer and download via Adobe digital editions.

I am so pleased with my Kobo. Best thing I've bought in the whole pandemic.

Oh, and for overdrive I prefer to browse the library on my phone on the Libby app, and borrow from there. Then just press the sync button on the kobo and the book appears.

I think you need Adobe digital editions and a cable for RB digital too.

Still worth it though.

I have the Kobo Clara and usually download library books direct. If you have access to Libby you can download books as EPUB and send them to your Kobo.

I can also sign in to overdrive on my laptop and download library books. When I sync the Kobo the books are downloaded onto it.

Your library will have a page telling you how to use their ebook service. Mine uses Borrowbox now (previously was RG Digital) and I need Adobe Digital Editions. It's not much messing around, I choose the books on my laptop, download them to my laptop and then plug the reader in the side and transter the books. It probably took as long to type that as it did to transfer them.

I did have a Nook Simple Touch but have just bought a H20 because I could really do with some light at night.

Thanks, all, I knew you would help.

I use ebooks all the time via the library but the info about downloading to kobo isn't very complete.

Will get hold of a second hand one I think for library book use Smile
