Frozen churros

DCs want to try churros (thanks for that Spanish teacher!). I could make them myself but I'm not too keen on deep frying stuff - too many doom-laden 70s public information broadcasts - I also stay away from railway lines and don't put bleach in old pop bottles.

Google suggests that there may be such things as frozen churros but it is less clear whether they are baked or deep fried and also unclear which supermarkets sell such items. Under normal circumstances, I would send DH round every supermarket in a five mile radius to have a browse and peruse any cooking instructions but it's probably not really in the spirit of necessary journeys only.

Anybody know more about them and where to purchase them?

The Aldi ones go straight in the oven and are bloody amazing. Either chocolate or salted caramel filled.

GeidiPrimes · 01/02/2021 15:05

I've bought them from Ocado before, and they're honestly not great. But M+S have fresh ones in the chilled section.

Waitingfirgodot · 01/02/2021 15:06

Lidl occasionally have ones that you bake. I'm scared to deep fry things too - my Dad told me never to do it, so I never did!

DaisyDreaming · 01/02/2021 15:06

Ann on YouTube ‘how to cook that’ cooked some from scratch, she did half of them in a fryer and half in the oven and said the oven were just as good

Tesco seem to sell frozen Churros that simply go in the oven. 12 chocolate and hazelnut filled ones for £2. Really want some now.

GeidiPrimes · 01/02/2021 15:06

And yes, sorry, they go in the oven. M+S ones are lovely.

CommunistLegoBloc · 01/02/2021 15:07

I love Aldi but their churros are disgusting

MiddleClassProblem · 01/02/2021 15:08

I’ve had the tesco, aldi and the m+s ones. None are as good as the real deal!

I don't like deep frying things either, but had a go in lockdown 1 and made churros, they were amazing, and not difficult at all. I've then made a couple of other deep fried things, but it seems a terrible waste of oil. But the churros were great.

Morrisons have ones that go in the oven - chocolate filled and have cinnamon sugar to sprinkle over. They're very nice Smile

Pumpkinstace · 01/02/2021 15:11

Did you have a dessert/ pancake/ donut type place that might sell them fresh?

amymel2016 · 01/02/2021 15:12

The Tesco frozen ones with hazelnut in are delicious, you just pop them in the oven

Londonisburningg · 01/02/2021 15:19

Tesco and lidl do them. Tesco ones go in the oven, lidl ones need to be deep fried..

Try looking on uber eats or deliveroo, near me there’s a dessert place that exclusively sells churros and other dessert parlours that do too

@user1495884673 I am from the 70's. Feel yr pain. I also hear Darth Vader telling me to look left and right and then left again , every time i cross a road.

Anyways, my DC's are also all about the churros. I have one safe word for you op, Air fryer!

No chip pan fires, no heart disease. The best investment i ever made.

Excellent, thanks everyone, Aldi and Tesco are both easily doable. So is M&S to be fair but I'm not sure I'm posh enough to buy food from M&S!

The lidl ones are a faff because they have to be deep fried. They dont taste great either TBH

WombatStewForTea · 01/02/2021 15:54

@user1495884673 they're really easy to make in the oven. No need to deep fry! www.biggerbolderbaking.com/homemade-churros/
