My breast feels like it's on fire. Shitting myself

It's felt like this for 3 weeks, and today it's unbearable. Just one breast. I did an e-consult at the weekend and I'm seeing my GP at 3pm. Has anyone else had this before? It's worse when I touch it but when I'm doing nothing it's like a white hot fiery pain. Absolutely no superficial signs of anything wrong. It's not red or swollen, no cuts, no rashes.

Have you been breastfeeding recently? Or anything virus wise that might have affected your glands?

startrek90 · 01/02/2021 13:51

Sounds like an infection. I had this in one breast and it's hurts like hell. My commiserations. Dr gave me something to clear up the infection and I haven't had any problems since

I had something similar just over a year ago though I had yucky discharge as well. Saw my GP xmas eve then a referral at the breast clinic a couple of weeks after. Turned out it was an abscess which I still have a year after. I've moved to a different part of the country and have a far better breast specialist so rather than just being told it's something I have to live with I'm getting proper treatment (though experimental as may be a newish 'bug').
Hopefully you'll be sorted out soon with some good antibiotics.

Thank all.

Haven't breastfed in 2 years! I'm hoping it's just thrush or something that can be easily sorted!

A colleague of mine had mastitis, she was in her early 20s and had never been pregnant or breastfed. Didnt realise that was a thing but apparently it can be!

Gilead · 01/02/2021 14:32

I managed to get mastitis twice, two years after I’d finished feeding!

Daydrambeliever · 01/02/2021 14:35

Having just been to the breast clinic for breast pain I was told very specifically that breast pain alone is almost never a symptom of cancer. Don't panic. It will be an infection or even a pulled muscle or tissue tear.

Theunamedcat · 01/02/2021 14:36

I've had this a couple of times i needed a new bra

Daydrambeliever · 01/02/2021 14:38

Me too @Theunamedcat. I had also taken up jogging and my gargantuan breasts weren't being supported enough.

CaffineismyBFF · 01/02/2021 14:39

I get this every so often. Had a couple of lumps too so ended up being referred.

They said one of the ducts was swollen and it was called something like duct estastia. Nothing could be done (unless I wanted surgery to remove said duct, which I didnt) so I bare the pain (paracetamol does nothing!). Worst is around when period is due or whilst I'm on my period.

Good luck OP, try not to worry in the meantime x

I was also told this too if its any consolation xx
HollowTalk · 01/02/2021 14:41

I hope everything's OK. I'm glad you could see your doctor so quickly.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 01/02/2021 15:48

Thanks everyone.

I've been referred to the breast clinic but I have no lumps or anything so GP isn't too worried.
